For exposure and eyes on the respective programs, I say UVA in 2019 or any of the wins under Groce in 2010 or 2012. I'm assuming there are more eyes watching March Madness than that football game, and the NCAA Tournament is bigger than an early season football game. Add in the human interest stories for Preston, and for me it's a no doubter.

That said, I can see the angle of "for the program" being more significant for the Pitt win to boost the football program's profile.

So for me, it depends on the point of view a little.

Call me when OU football beats Alabama (reigning national champions) in the football playoffs (NCAA tournament) and we can talk about them being equal.

Until then, this is utter nonsense.

This is like arguing your son's YMCA title is more important to the town than their NBA playoff win because their YMCA team used to be really awful.

Bobcats win vs Uconn in Hawaii in December 1993 was a big one. Then in November 1994 they beat Ohio State and Virginia. Yes Boals beat a ranked Virginia team as a player and as a coach. Those were first 2 rounds in the preseason Nit.

The Pitt win is closer to the regular season Bball win over Depaul. Pitt and DePaul were both shells of their past - but brought a name to the game.

A great win below worth mentioning in this discussion.

Ohio’s 16 point victory over the 4th ranked Kentucky Wildcats at Williams Arena in Minneapolis to advance to the Elite 8 in the 1964 NCAA Tournament. It was the worst defeat experienced by the Wildcats that season. Coach Adolph Rupp visited the Bobcats’ locker room after the game to congratulate them. Ohio had beaten Louisville in OT in the first game. Eliminated in next game by Michigan.

Tell you what. Express your preference of the Pitt game to a neutral party and watch their reaction.

This is right.

Which is hilarious for anybody trying to ascribe significance to the Pitt game.

It's funny that the Pitt win hinges on them being "preseason Top 20" as if preseason polls in college football are worth anything. They got housed by Notre Dame in Week 1 on National TV and finished the season 5-6.

Over time, Ohio's win over Pitt loses it's luster. I was there and it was amazing at the time and more or less "launched" Ohio football into the Solich era, but that's it.

Per "marketingcharts.com" in 2017, which was the most recent information I could find, 56% of adults identified themselves as college football fans; 38% as college basketball fans. So before football positive results and impacts compared to basketball are completely dismissed as comparatively insignificant, we may want to consider, if we haven't, including that as part of the formulation of our opinions.

I believe the effect of the UVA win will grow with time when it results in success in the transfer portal and extension for Boals.

It's a good point, and part of my opinion already. Why? Because half of our "fan base" cares more about a certain other football team up the road than OUrs. To me, it's a regular season win, that, while exciting and a statement win for the football program, doesn't remotely touch the significance of basketball wins in March when the entire country is taking time off work and watching.

Another thought to throw in: That year's football team went 4-7 (3-5). Doesn't seem like something to consider THE moment to me in comparison to beating Georgetown, Michigan, or Virginia in the NCAA Tournament.

For me, the football win at Penn State resonates a lot more than Pitt.

The way the game ended was exciting.
But,unlike Penn State, O.U. got lucky.

O.U. was fading.
On their last drive Pitt came right down the field and tied
the game with a field goal.

I remember how worried everyone was that we'd lose if it went to O.T.,especially since our kicking game wasn't great.

Byrum's interception won the game.
He doesn't score on the interception,I think we would have lost.

As far as a bigger win,I'd compare PSU to Va.

Except the dialogue (before and) after the Penn State win was about the decline of Penn State football - after the scandal, Paterno's deaths, etc. Ohio didn't really get the love until the SI article that year (and we all know how it ended).

The storyline after the VA win was about the dangerous Ohio team.

My earlier comments about comparing football to basketball were in general. I was not making a case for the Pitt game being a bigger win than any particular basketball game. In fact, I too think Penn State was a bigger football win than Pitt.

To be perfectly transparent however, yes, Penn State had those issues but there were also those who said the reason Virginia lost to us was because they had to battle COVID right up to the first game. Didn’t matter to pundits that we went through the same in our conference tournament...hardly mentioned by anyone once we got to Indiana. (In fact, and let me digress for a moment, there is an obvious bias by the sports media to find and harp on excuses for big programs losing. After all there HAS to be a reason for it. Right? They don’t investigate to see what the underdog may be going through but this is probably a whole separate discussion.)

The bottom line is one can’t necessarily choose who and when you play the game in the short term. You just have to be ready. An excuse can be made and used by almost any team if they want to look hard enough to find one.

And with the basketball group on here, you will get opinions and hours of reasons why it is right. Every game is the next coming of our dynasty.

Opinions are like. . .the reason message boards exist?

There's truly nothing more pointless than coming into an online space that exists for people to share their (sometimes annoying) opinions on a niche topic and then being critical of the mere idea of sharing opinions.

I guess you're here for, what, the articles?

Greatest 2 weeks in Ohio basketball were early Dec 1969, beat top 20 Ohio State and No. 12 Perdue with Rick Mount and we got ranked No. 5 in the country at 6-0 then 7-0.

Is the wife with you, OCF? If she is, ask her about your "to" instead of "too".

Not being judgmental, just registering a bit of a surprise.
