Drops 44 on the Cavs last night. I knew he was good, but didn’t know he was capable of such a performance in the NBA.

I remember reading somewhere, Giacomo, that he wanted to follow his dad to Athens. But he settled on Duke because Ohio University was lacking a practice facility.

Believe it or not, my son was the official poet for the Trailblazers about 10 years ago (If you know Portland, it stands to reason that their NBA team would have an official poet) and we have seen a lot of games through the years. Gary Trent Jr has blossomed right before our eyes the last 2 years. It’s looking like the Blazers will regret the trade but it has allowed him to become a regular starter which wasn’t possible in Portland.

Thank goodness he didn't have to play for P.J. Carlesimo.

He would've fit well here. Only thing is we'd have probably only had him for one , two years at best. I'm sure the absence of a practice facility ain't the only reason he chose duke over us. we're talking coach k and a much better education on and off the court

Interesting, Bobcat 2000.

You bring up points I never thought of. And I doubt few others on BA would think a one-and-done recruit like Trent would choose Coach K over Saul.

I bet he probably would have stayed for a 2nd season under Saul in Athens. I mean #BurritoBuggy.

Saul didn't need to schedule Duke to learn how to win games from Coach K. Just sayin...

Saul started good but tanked as time went on. Would love to know where our team would be if we had chose boals instead of Saul.

Wait.
Waitwaitwaitwaitwait.

Wait.

The Portland Trailblazers have an official team poet?

1.This is awesome.

2. How was this not a “Portlandia” skit at some point?

3. I want an official Ohio Bobcat athletics poet, but I want it to be a message board poster.

Tradition would make Pete the #1 draft pick for this.

Agreed. Henceforth, Pete is known as The Bobcat Bard.

I may not have written it, but I found it via diligent research in the Alden archives years ago as a student. Therefore, I want to be appointed assistant to the Bobcat Bard, with at least half of his salary!

The 1897 football season, which produced the best record of any of the 19th Century campaigns, started with two straight losses—to Marietta College and Cincinnati. The team then reeled off seven straight with victories over Muskingum College, Dennison College, Ohio Medical University, West Virginia University, Otterbein College, and Marietta College. The home victory over WVU inspired a poem that appeared in The Athens Messenger and Herald newspaper.

And they came and they were conquer'd

With swift dispatch and ease,
And they felt that twinging sorrow which
In vain they could appease
Thought not that woe awaited them
Across Ohio's stream.
And like the poet found that things
Aren't ever what they seem.

And they came from fair Virginia
The place of Morgantown.
Where swift Monogahela flows
Past mountains looking down:
Proud and boasting came they hither
To wrestle for the goals
Which they found almost as quickly
As disembodied souls.

Badly battered left they homeward
In vain could they conceal
The awful havoc of their bucks
'Gainst O.U.'s pointed steel:
And they left here sad but wiser
Of many manly tricks,
For the gridiron here is hot
As Athens politics.

A Bobcat Barb?

Consulting the thesaurus to ascertain what the assistant's title would be

dart
bristle
prickle
prong
quill
shaft
spike
spur
thistle
thorn

Sorry my dyslexia got the best of me -- reversed the "d" and made it a "b." I've corrected it in the original now.
