Picked the wrong day to miss a bunch of open looks. It was not a good or even mediocre game by the Cats, but I think Creighton deserves a lot of credit for making us look bad. Outstanding energy and defense and they did something Virginia didn't manage to do: Frustrated Preston enough to make him force things and make bad decisions.
Still, I think we'd all have been thrilled with an NCAA win at the start of a season that almost never happened and one that almost got cancelled at the very end. The seasons following 2010 and 2012 proved there are no sure things for a mid-major team, so I'm trying to enjoy this year for what it is.
Disappointing game but there are some bright sides.
I'd be surprised if Boals gets poached after two years at the helm and one NCAA win with two of the best players being recruited by the last coach. So there's a good chance to build on this momentum.
Assuming all the key pieces return, there should be a huge amount of momentum and opportunity for bigger and better things next year. That's of course far from a sure thing for any college team nowadays, but this group seems to love playing together, so it doesn't seem like a pipe dream.
This team overachieved this year and could achieve something even better next year.
