Foster is gone...you forgot Granger and Towns. A guy like Brown is interchangeable at the 1 and 2. Boals can go big with a 3-4-5 combo of BVP, Carter and Wilson with any 2 of Sears, McDay or Roderick. If Towns can make some sort of leap and contribute that would be great. He has to find his shot first. If Frazier comes pencil him ahead of Schmock but still able to play the 1 or the 2.

PG: Sears, Schmock
SG: McDay, Brown
SF: Roderick, Towns
4-5: BVP, Carter, Ezuma, Clayton
5: Wilson, Granger

Did one of the Brown's leave too , I only see one on the recruiting grid, or is that because he's a walk on ?

The last I knew he was a walk-on.

I think we should just put the most talented players out on the court and scheme around them. In my opinion, that would be:

PG - Sears
SG - Roderick
SF - BVP
PF - Carter
C - Wilson

It seems like most people in here see Carter coming off the bench. He was an All-MAC performer and our best player when he transferred. I'd personally like to see if the transition back into MAC competition helps him find his old form!

I don't disagree with this. Man...to have McDay as first option off bench is impressive too. Team is stacked.

Is it November yet?

Agree. McDay starts. Maybe Wilson rotates in. Either way. This is a deep lineup

I think there may turn out to be a starter who isn't yet on the team.

I'll be shocked if it isn't the same starters as last year with the exception of Sears replacing Preston. Carter will play a significant role off the bench and may end up with more minutes than a starter or two.

I see a great 7 man rotation with Sears, Roderick, McDay, Brown rotating the 3 guard/SF spots and BVP, Carter & Wilson rotating the 2 big man spots. Sorry but absent injuries, I don't see a lot of playing time for anyone beyond those 7 for this season.

I love Jason Carter but he's not starting. Don't fix what isn't broken.

Sears
McDay
Roderick
BVP
Wilson

Carter, Brown, and hopefully a strengthened Towns the first off the bench.

Those 5 will probably start - but not because of tenure or tradition…they will have to earn it. I can never forget what Boals said during his introductory presser…he remembered Coach Hunter’s impassioned cries of “Compete!” during practices when he was a player. I have so much respect for this guy as a leader.

Why. Question mark.
Carter will start. If not at the beginning of the season then by the end.
"Carter is a starter."

Regardless of who starts, BVP & Carter are going to get a ton of minutes, especially when one get into foul trouble. A nice thing to have.

I'm also not sure why McDay has to start. Just because he did last year? He's not a scorer or rebounder and doesn't tally assists. He can play some defense, but Carter can get buckets and rebound and add size to our starting lineup.

If it ain't broke don't fix it, unless you just got a new part that can make it even better.

I think Lunden’s impact isn’t always evident on the box score. While his 2pt fg % isn’t great, he averages double figures in scoring (.329 from 3 and .80% from the line) and hit some clutch shots in our run. I also like the fact that both he and Roderick seemed to be more aggressive going to the hoop towards the end of last season.
I haven’t even mentioned that he is the best defender we have on the team, and most likely would be on most teams in the MAC… He was first team all-defense last year.
Should he start? In my humble opinion, yes. I prefer to go more defensively oriented to start and bring in scorers off the bench. But that’s just me.
BTW, don’t we usually have someone to put some eyeballs on the practices by now? COVID probably changes things and not having a beat reporter doesn’t help either…

Go Bobcats!

I certainly hope is does, OhioCatFan. Here's my thought process: We have a rare bigs situation in three all-MAC level, 6-8 players who are at least fifth-year seniors in Jason Carter, Ben VanderPlas and Dwight Wilson. They're talented and experienced. I can't ever remember us having three guys like this at the same time before.

Sooo, what I'd like to see Coach Boals do is go for it. I mean REALLY go for it, as in making an intentional assault aimed at doing serious damage in the Big Dance. This means replacing Jason Preston with a big-time (hopefully long, like 6-5) shooting guard, preferably a grad transfer, who also can back up Ben-Rod at small forward. Think Jeremy Harris, the JC transfer who combined with CJ Massinburg and Nick Perkins to take Buffalo to another level in 2019.

If we get that type of guy to start at shooting guard, that would give us four seniors playing around Mark Sears. Lunden McDay and one of the bigs would become valuable sixth and seventh men, and the talented youngsters would fill in from there.

We may never be in this situation again where we have this type of experienced front line (including Ben Rod) with other pieces ready to complement them. If we get that big-time wing (and we have two scholarships to try and get it done) I believe we'll have the potential to be a truly devastating team. Sweet 16? Even further? We may only be a player away.

I can see your point of view, but the question I have is this: Is that player even available at this point in the summer within the portal? I haven't dug into who is still available. I would suspect any player that is going to start over anyone currently on the roster might not be available at this point. Yes? No?

I'm confident a baller like that is out there. He could be a grad transfer at a school that doesn't figure to be big winner this season, a JC guy, maybe a portal transfer with a year of eligibility remaining, as with Jason Carter. We've found guys this late: I remember Mychal Green and Jerome Tillman were summer signings...I just think we've been so close to doing serious damage several times but we always were missing that one player that potentially would have been the key to getting us over the hump. I see us being in this position again, right here, right now...

McDay is what holds the hold thing togehter at both ends of the floor. He plugs gaps, gets loose balls, executes. In my 42 years in Athens, he's our current version of Eddie HIcks.

I like Lunden McDay. He's gotten better each year and I think he's gonna be terrific as a senior. So trying to bring in a big-time shooting guard isn't a slight on him in the least; McDay's gonna get his minutes and be an integral part of the team, no doubt.

The thing is, I'm not sure he was going to start this season anyway if Jason Preston returned. If Coach Boals decided to start his best players--and Mark Sears makes the quantum leap we're hoping for between the freshman and sophomore seasons--we may have been looking at a starting back court of Preston and Sears, with McDay playing a pivotal role and significant minutes as the sixth man.

So I'll pose the question this way: if you had your choice of these two scenarios, which one would you prefer--McDay starts and we bring in a player to play behind him, or we get a facsimile of a Jeremy Harris type and McDay becomes our sixth man?
