I agree with the thoughts that he should jump at a top 40 pick and guaranteed contract...but what if he is told or suggested that will happen, then it doesn't and he is picked at the very end of the 2nd round with no guarantee? Isn't that a thing that happens a lot? Guys get strong suggestions from multiple teams and then none of them deliver. It is in the NBA teams best interest to strengthen the pool in which to draft from as they never know who will fall where. A team may be saying sure we will take Preston at #35, assuming player X,Y & Z are gone but one of them is not.

Just something to consider...getting a feel for where you will land isn't as easy at it seems.

Every year it seems like 28 players are told they are "late first rounders."

This happens all the time in both the NBA and the NFL draft. It's especially devastating in hoops, because you can't put the milk back in the bottle, you can't go back to college, you're stuck. That's why I generally believe it's a good play for a baller with the talent that Jason Preston has to bet on himself, return and improve his draft position. After all, he will at least be a second-round pick in the following draft, right?

It seems to me that if JP returns to college he could find himself among the same 28, all over again, in the '22 draft. He seems to have surprised a lot of experts, the way he has jumped up in the rankings. What was he before the combine 75? unranked in many? Now today he comes in at #42 in one and #10 in another. He's "the flavor of the month" pick - there is a lot of power in that kind of momentum. Second round picks are long-shots, right? Well, that fits right into the storyline for Preston. If I were him I'd find it impossible not to go for the win, right now.

Woj tweets that Jason is staying in the draft and hiring an agent.

Thank you for everything, Jason!

Ohio University junior guard Jason Preston will remain in the 2021 NBA Draft and sign with agent Drew Gross of Roc Nation Sports, Preston told ESPN on Wednesday.

Nets would be great. He'll get more playing time when Kyrie gets injured again.

There are some surprising names withdrawing from the draft and returning to college. Johnny Juzang, Isaiah Mobley, Max Abmas, Marcus Bagley, and Ron Harper Jr are all coming back. I don't know what the international prospect pool looks like, but that's huge news for Jason's chances.
