With Jason Carter returning after a 2-year detour, is there any other former Bobcats you would welcome back to Athens?

Not sure where some of these guys are, or if they even have any eligibility left. But, off the top of my head, here are some names: Marvin Price, Nathan Springs, Antonio Cowart, AJ Gareri, Teyvion Kirk, Zach Butler, Torey James. Probably too early to include Mason McMurray and other recent visitors to the transfer portal.

Springs: 2.1ppg on one of the worst d-1 teams in the nation.
Marvin Price: could find no D-1 stats after leaving Ohio**
AJ Gareri: " " " " " " "
Cowart: 9ppg at a small school in Mississippi (most of season was xlcd)
Kirk: 14ppg at low level mid UIC
Butler: found no d-1 stats since leaving Ohio***
James: one source mentioned Cape Fear Juco but could find no stats

**Price averaged 11ppg at a community college in Utah (?)
***Butler had 5ppg at a juco in Kansas

Kirk would be the only one that might make sense. Maybe.

We lost a really good player to transfer in Danny Nee's first year. Tim Woodson? Can we get him back?

Good thought, I vote for Larry Slappy and Ulice Payne. This return transfer phenomenon and the extra year of eligibility with COVID is really going to help the Bobcats. Anybody say, Final Four, baby!

Any eligibility left, OCF? Or have you played too many saturday mornings at the middle school gym?

None of those players would even come remotely close to cracking the rotation on the 21-22 team.

Ulice Payne was a starter upfront for some really good Marquette teams. He would definitely be a factor.

What about Huggins?

I would welcome back Jay Kinney....

Guy violated double digit number of team and University rules, but he could fill it up. I still believe in him.

I think the agent I hired for the1968 NTA draft renders me ineligible. NTA = National Tiddlywinks Association.

Hey OhioCatFan, I was covering the team for The Post when Payne and Slappy arrived as freshmen with high school all-America status. People were starting to pay attention nationally to us as that was Jim Snyder's third straight strong recruiting class which began with George (Big Daddy) Green and Bill Brown; and the following year Bob Huggins, the Ohio High School Player of the Year (he transferred to West Virginia after one season) and Walter Luckett, the National High School Player of the Year.

I truly believed we were on our way to becoming a team that could play on a national level as big-time recruits--including several renown high-school all-America centers--seriously considered coming to play with Luckett and a crew that could hang with many of the top 30 teams in the country.

But when Payne and Slappy transferred, it all collapsed. Damn, we were close. I mean, really, really close to possibly becoming something special...

Flash, I had the same thoughts as you back in the day. I thought we were on the verge of becoming the Gonzaga of the Midwest before anyone had heard of Gonzaga as a basketball power. The story I heard, which perhaps you can confirm or refute, was that Snyder had trouble adjusting to coaching players with the egos of some of these high-profile recruits. He was used to taking the under-the-radar kid and coaching him up to be a star, or to coaching high profile recruits like Mike Haley, who were humble and easy to coach. Does this jibe with anything you heard at the time?

Yeah, back then Gonzaga was known only as Bing Crosby's alma mater.

Steven Coleman AKA Stevie Fresh, still has two years left of eligibility,,,, Had an ease and smoothness to his game if I recall.... He was scoring 12.4 per game before he left during his sophomore year to pursue a career in music.

Correction, was injured during his sophomore year and left before the start of his junior season.

Thank you, but none of the are needed. Kirk is the only serviceable option and I think the last thing we need is a ball-dominant PG on the roster.

Can't believe this one hasn't been mentioned, but if this had happened a decade or so earlier I think we'd all welcome Jeremy Fears back.

Why did Coach Snyder retire after 73/74 season if he had the powerhouse recruiting that is mentioned? Did the two freshman leave before or after the Coach called it quits that year?

The thing I seem to remember about Payne was that his shot had the highest RPM of any college player that came through the Convo.
