Anyone in law enforcement?

A question. dog sniffs 5 lb of dope.  Do you simply deliver the package and arrest all in the house (allowing them to rightfully say, "all we did was sign for a package.") or do you deliver the package (undercover) and then track the drugs to see who is selling and to whom?  I would think with that large amount, you would do the latter - unless, you already had a case, but were waiting for the shipment.  If he simply signed for a package - not much of a case at all.

which is where Zipnation is - not even his aprtment

I'm guessing this pretty much kills any at-large hopes they had no matter how small the chance was.

this happens10 days earlier and Green Fever in the Convo takes on a whole new meaning. Imagine thee 110 playing "Light Up" during time outs, the Ozone doing what it does best, etc. That would have been a sell out.

Maybe not cc. But now they can look at all his phone/text/email records, etc.

I'm telling you from my professional experience, for law enforcement to pull that bust off would require that Abreu and whoever he dealt with to have done this for quite some time.

This is not a one-time thing and Abreu got unlucky. He would have had to do this multiple times and they have been tracking him.

I'm worried that if he got nailed, whether he involved any teammates.

Yeah that is just one of the Zip fans.  Another stated that he bets it was an OU or Kent alum that sent it to him. LOL

not in law enforcement but worked for a company that worked with law enforcement for Fraud prevention for purchases made with stolen credit cards or stolen identities. APD would have to be extremely incompetent to pull off a bust with this much product and only have someone accepting the package as proof of guilt. Most likely this operation has been under surveillance for some time and the key players were well known. The package is just the trigger, once probable cause is shown the police can then search the property, cell phones, computers, etc where they will likely find a wealth of evidence for the prosecution.

my opinion is that if the only thing the police had was this package and they didn't know anything about the sender or recipient then they would have either delivered it and followed it, or not delivered it at all.

Posts are getting removed from the zipnation thread on this topic.  They must be getting really paranoid.

Thanks Perimeter.  - Odd, if this was the result of an investigation, then the cops knew he was involved.  Must be tough on the cops watching a kid throw away what he had. But I guess they see the damage dealing drugs can do to others.

Do they have drug dogs sniff every single package that passes through the USPS/FedEx/UPS in the hope that maybe they'll find that one package with drugs? Highly doubtful. Most likely, they had been investigating this for a while, identified Abreu or someone else at the same address as a distribution hub, and focused on packages going to that location. So there will be other evidence of trafficking, and this was the smoking gun.

Or maybe the undercover cop said something like, "Hey man....that package smells a little....herbal....what is that, man? Weed? Oh damn, man! That's a lot of weed. You sell it? Yeah? You're under arrest."

Akron has been the highest team in the MAC standings all year. Their season may of just went up in smoke. Pound for Pound, Abreu was one of the better distributors in the MAC.

I hope the rest of the team doesn't get lost in the weeds.

Abreu's guilt or innocence aside, this plus Kretzer's health scare will give Akron a lot of off-court distractions to deal with leading up to and into the MAC tourney.

Honestly it looks Hazy from here out for Akron. They need to get lifted and realize that the grass may actually be greener in the future than it is now

Weird coincidence but the movie Snitch in theaters right now with "The Rock" is about his kid receiving a package from UPS/Fed Ex and the cops bust him when he signs for it. It was pills not pot but with that amount it's distribution.

I'd have to agree. They are removing posts on that forum like wild fire. A page completely disappeared.

Add to that, one of Akron's posters claims he's heard that Dambrot has/had an interest in the ODU job.  Wow, what a difference a week makes for Zips fans!  Last week, a Top 25 appearance and At Large talk, now this.

I'm sure there are a lot of bloodshot eyes right now, but they have to roll this up through next week.

You gotta wonder if the Zips have the fire to roll with the punches. I mean, they just learned their fearless leader was burning the candle at both ends.

All of Zippy Nation feels bowled over.

However, once the haze clears the Zips will realize that they did not, in fact, have a pot to piss in.

I think Akron point guard duties just became a joint effort.

How could he be such a dope? This group wanted to blaze all the way to the NCAA tournament but now they are going to have to zig zag through a dangerous MAC. This is a blunt trauma to their pipe dream of the Final Four

Anyone supporting this man is simply stirring the pot. That's the pot calling the kettle black. Just wait until we get the pot-iculars. It is awfully pot-entious of us to assume things. Seriously, if this acts out as planned, there is no reason to defend him or hope for a better future. If he's a drug dealer, he deserves everything he gets. I wish I didn't have thousands in college loans to pay and he had a free education. I hope the Cats take full advantage, but remember, this just opens the door for Can't State or Buffalo to get to the finals and we all know how tough a third game with either team would be!

It remains to be seen if Carmelo Betancourt can pass it around like Abreu.
