Buffalo picked first.

BVP picked first team all MAC, Carter second team.

Article is written like someone actually knew something about the MAC. Odd for Athlon.

Number #2 is respectable or shall I say a good sign of respect.

Just listened to the Three Man Weave podcast’s predictions for mid-majors and they also said that Jason Carter is likely to have a very good year… They also mentioned us as the favorites but just, with Buffalo….

A little off topic but, on one of Three Man Weave’s recent podcasts, they have an interview with the head coach of Belmont…

Buffalo definitely returns more athletic talent than us in Hardnett, Segu, Williams and Mballa and a bruiser in Bertram while adding Maceo Jack from GW and Ty Perry from Fordham. But while we lost Jay Preston, they lost their glue in Graves. Preston, while an amazing player, was not necessarily our "glue." I thought that was more of BVP or even DW3. Sears will step in and having Carter will be huge. But I'm good with second behind Beefalo.

I'm guessing Bowling Green is 3rd with all their transfers (haven't seen the mag) which means the two NEO entries (AU-KSU) are at the back of the pack. When is the last time for that???

Bobcats aren't going to surprise anyone this year. I suspect too that they will have a target on their backs. In addition, Buffalo is very, very good.

Carter 2nd team all conference? Isn't there a chance he doesn't start?

No. I'm saying Carter is one of the best 5 players on OUr roster and needs to start. Not sure if that means McDay comes off the bench, or Wilson or Roderick. But Carter needs to be in the starting lineup.

I'm so torn on what we should do with Carter.

Is he one of our top 5 players? Yes.
Do I usually think you start your top 5 regardless of position? Usually, yes.
Does starting him cause guys to play out of position (minimizing their skill sets) and likely causing SERIOUS mismatches on one side of the court or the other? Also - very much yes.

How do you start BVP, Carter AND DWIII? Who exactly of those 3 is guarding a SF/wing - which in the MAC is usually a 3rd guard?

I just don't see it. Other teams will pick on that every time down and we'll end up in foul trouble or playing ole defense and giving up easy buckets.

So who sits?

In my humble opinion, BVP is our best PF (and likely best overall player) and DWIII is our best C.

Kinda leaves Jason as the odd man out, 6th man type doesn't it?

As long as he's okay with it, maybe that's a cool advantage we can have with instant offense and an All-MAC caliber guy coming off the bench?

I’m still trying to figure out what happened to Jason at Xavier, other than he must have been told not to shoot the ball or the other players just weren’t going to pass him the ball period. Either way, when he got it, he wasn’t very good shooting it. I still have to think that he was injured with bad legs or whatever. This has been discussed elsewhere, but what makes people think that he’s going to be his old self and an all MAC player? Is it just lower quality competition that will make the difference, much better team chemistry, or what?
FYI - 38% shooting, 18% 3 point , 55% free throw

Experienced, team-oriented guy who shoots 38/18/55. Sounds like a rotational guy off the bench to me.

He's not going to shoot that low here. Mark it down. Injuries were a major factor at X. Plus playing in an environment where players were out for themselves. Still, he started almost every game there and usually guarded the best big.

When you have three bigs like this ... that's when you play zone.

Just sayin ...

Definitely something you can go to in spurts, maybe when you're trying to buy a 4 minute stretch of time with all 3 on the floor, but I don't think it's something you can just make the MO.

Run a 2-3 with those guys in the back and teams will attack the 3 point line.
If you tried to run a 3-2 you'd ideally like a big with length and athleticism at the point. Maybe that guy could be Carter? Certainly not a BVP or DWIII strong point IMO.

I don't think it matters in the big picture whether Jason Carter starts or not because he most certainly will get his minutes. He'll play a lot if he backs up both Dwight Wilson and BVP.

I agree with this sentiment. I also think it depends on matchups. Some teams Ohio will play may lend themselves more to Jason's skillset and less to Dwight's, or vice-versa. Both will play a lot of minutes.

Yep, saying it won’t even be close for the first half of the year, Carter will be that far ahead of Wilson.

My X insider tells me Carter had the highest basketball IQ on the team and was the best defender. They did not need or use his offensive skills which regressed. In Athens and vs the MAC we know what he can do offensively. I am sure he could easily start and he will get plenty of minutes.

There is a perfect world where Carter can guard a 3, especially in the MAC. Plus, there are plenty of minutes to be had with DW3 looking worn towards the end of the season and BVP having so many miles on that body. I am sure those two will welcome less minutes. I wonder where the rest of the minutes will come for Granger who I really think will be a key the following year. Ezuma also seems to have a great engine and energy from his film.

Are any BA posters with close contacts in the Convo hearing anything on the injury front?

As the saying goes, who starts the game matters less than who finishes it.
