FearLeon, this is the only draft "writing" I've found that has him listed as being in the first round... If Jason gets picked here, we all would be quite shocked but proud of him and wish him the best, no doubt... Meh, we'll see what happens soon enough but, this caught my eye.
Agree....if this happens...I'll be happy as hell for JP. Would be incredible.

Seems a bit high.... Possibly the pick or the writer...
Ahead of Ayo Dosunmu and Johnny Juzang? Boy I don't see that. Then again, it's the NBA. The kid who drives the ice cream truck through my neighborhood could wind up a 1st rd pick.

So the kid who drives the ice cream truck through your neighborhood has a chance of getting drafted higher than any OU player since 1995?

This makes absolutely no sense.

JP has serious point guard skills. I will be surprised if he doesn’t get drafted, honestly. He’s beaten the odds before. I’m ready to become a fan of whichever team picks him.

Mock drafts are often heavily influenced by agents looking to raise the stock of a client, or, in Preston's case perhaps, looking to attain a client. Pretty good chance multiple agents have reached out to him this week with, "we need to get you drafted...." (even though he knows who he would sign with if he chooses to stay in draft).

Drafted before Sharife Cooper and within two picks of Cam Thomas?

It's a load of bullcrap. Take it with a giant grain of salt.

Mock drafts are always heavily influenced by the professional need for sportswriters to justify their existence and to make people think that they actually know what they're talking about. You get beyond the first three or four picks and they're pure crapshoot.

He has "projectability" and "intangibles"

The ceiling is the floor.

Popcorn machine vendor is jealous.

And yes - NBA GM's make ludicrous draft decisions all the time. That was my only point.

If Scottie Pippen Jr. (21 ppg) is predicted to go second round in 2022 (meaning he will withdraw from the current draft, he hasn't hired an agent) then he!! will freeze over before JP get drafted this time.

And JP's dad is probably not one of the 50 greatest players of all time.

"I really like this Preston kid. His court vision and patience with the ball in his hands is next level."

"Yeah, but his dad is horrible on weak side defense and can't shoot."

The Tampa Bay Pro Combine was last weekend and I saw that Preston wasn't there. Jayvon Graves, Justin Turner and Loren Jackson were. Turner just announced that he's staying in the draft.

Is that for seniors only though? I cannot believe LCJ would be a more appealing guard than Jay Preston.

Not sure about seniors only. The official website says “draft eligible “. BTW - the Co-chair of the selection committee was Fran Fraschilla.

Best pre-draft write-up I’ve seen on JP. Going to be an interesting next 20 days in Bobcat land.

Selfishly I want Jay Preston back for one more year because with him this team will be unstoppable. If he leaves though, we do have Sears who could have started for many of the teams in the MAC as a freshman and been an All-MAC performer. I wouldn't mind a starting lineup of Sears, McDay, Roderick, Wilson and BVP with Brown and Carter as the top backups and IJ and Granger busting heads inside. I hope Towns improves over the offseason and if Preston leaves we definitely could use another wing from the transfer portal.

If Preston didn't get invited to this G-league combine, he won't get drafted and if he stays in the draft and can't return, he might get a contact to play in the summer league which is basically a free agent try-out thing.

https://gleague.nba.com/news/nba-g-league-announces-field... /

He needs to stay in college ball for another season.

Actually, as of a couple years ago, a player who declares early for the NBA Draft and participates in the NBA Draft Combine but does not get drafted may elect to return if they notify their athletic director by 5 p.m. the Monday after the draft and cut off any contracts with agents, who are permitted to help them through the draft process.

Preston is among the 69 players who already has an invite to the actual NBA Combine. A few more will be invited after the G-League Elite Camp. ESPN2 and ESPNU will have 5-on-5 games from the Draft Combine from 3-7 p.m. June 24-25.

Was there ever any thought of getting Onu to transfer to Athens from Shawnee State? He wouldn't have had to sit out due to SSSU being NAIA, right?

He is getting some serious looks from NBA front offices.

With the NBA Camp next week I would guess we should hear something by the following week, June 28th.
Staying at Ohio for 1 more year can only help him for the next level.
