All this said, these are great problems and conversations to have. The 10th guy on Ohio's roster right now would probably be earning quality minutes on teams in the bottom two-thirds of the MAC this year.

And all this conversation leaves out the potential jumps from guys like Towns, Brown, and Granger, along with the fact that both freshmen could push for playing time.

Fun times!
Exactly. We've come a long way from Nate Springs getting important minutes at times.
And those minutes seemed like a lifetime ago.

Good ole Mister Wilson gave us 15 and 8, and his attitude was amazing. Third team all MAC. No way he doesn't start and give us a lot of minutes. As others have said, which players are on the floor at particular times will depend on matchups, foul situations, etc.
No doubt about it. I think we're on the same page in saying that there's a ton of depth and talent. Coach has his work cut out for him to find a balance with this group this coming season. For me, this is the deepest, and most talented team in The Convo since 2013.

We can't just poo poo the idea of someone sitting / getting less minutes without saying what you'd do instead. It is hard to imagine any 1 of this group of 7 (Preston, Sears, Roderick, McDay, BVP, Wilson, Carter) not being a starter with 30+ minutes....but if all are healthy, there isn't enough minutes to go around. And that is without mentioning Miles Brown, who would start on any other MAC team. I do not recall a more deep 8 man rotation in my time as a Bobcat fan.

Nate Oates handled his loaded lineups pretty well. I’m confident Jeff will as well.

+1

Good chemistry and team spirit can go a long way. It seems to me that the top guys in the rotation all have a team-first mentality. I credit this to selective recruiting and good leadership from Coach Boals once they arrive on campus. Look at the evidence, with all the high-profile transfers occurring around the league and nation, the only guys we are losing are the benchwarmers, who looked to only get "garbage time" minutes going forward at OHIO.

My Xavier friends tell me that Jason Carter was the best defense of player on the team. Said his basketball IQ was quite high. If he regains his offense of touch he’s going to play a ton of minutes.

He is probably the most versatile of the three big guys

Is it October yet? The anticipation of the 2021-2022 season is through the roof. Can’t wait.

I just hope that Andy Katz doesn't read this board.

From what I read about his year last season, Jason's largest issue was injuries. If he's able to get his body right, we know he can be a good one for Ohio.

Injuries were obviously an issue here as well. I get the impression some folks are forgetting how good he was here - not just stats, but fundamentals...foot work etc. He now has two more years of experience (against better competition) and is 10 pounds heavier. He was 3rd team All Mac the year he left. If he stays healthy.....damn. He, preston and BVP are all first team talent. playing time will not make that happen but all are that good.

on a side note. after next year it will be interesting how many of our fans name their next born son “Jason”

I disagree. As a junior with a solid dose of minutes his first 2 seasons, I think he is a starter on any other MAC team especially considering his defensive abilities.

I briefly considered "Spindle" for my first born back in 1990.

IMO: Roderick is the key to the team going to the next level. He is the potential dagger carrier with the shot and size to pick up key rebounds and make steals. He can be a game changer.

Many of the good teams get in the passing lanes and get steals and off to the fast break for a few hoops that turn close games into victories. Roderick is the guy that if he becomes the best on the team the victories against the best competition will follow. He seems to me the one with the most upside in the rotation.

Go Bobcats! Work hard this off season and achieve your goals next season.

I suggested Smoljan for my first grandson's name but was turned down.

I agree with this. If Brod takes this to firs-team All-MAC level...watch out.
