Maybe it would still do well, but I would personally have no interest in the tourney without the Cinderella stories. None.
Agreed.
Same. Hence my argument for deserving 25, 26, 27 win mid-major's every year, and against the 17-15 (8-10) major conference teams every year. Reward at-large to a great season with 25+ wins, not a great schedule without wins.

There's a reason the excitement in the arena's is biggest on the first Thursday and Friday, and it's not because Duke or Kentucky were winning by 25 over a 16 seed. Hopefully the powers that be realize this and never screw with it. The moment it becomes the power conference NCAA Tournament it becomes less interesting to much of the country that watches it.

Yup. If they do it it opens an interesting option for another tournament. Maybe a new NIT can attract sponsors.

"Those Cinderella schools are putting 200 people, at best, in their gym," Huggins said. "We're putting 14,000."

Bobby doesn't seem to recall how his school travelled when he was early on at UC, and THEY were the Cinderella, or how well Ohio travels as another example.

In short, he just sounds dumb saying this. And I used to call myself a fan of his.

He probably still “has a burr” because Walt was getting all of the attention when he got to Athens. :)

Maybe I'm not the perfect example, but I can hardly remember who made the championship game from year to year or who the final four members were. However, I loved watching the back-to-back runs to the championship game by Butler and can still see that three point heave just missing against Duke. I remember when George Mason made it to the Final Four. And the Loyola Chicago run was a blast a couple of years ago. Again, maybe I'm the exception, but those years and those teams resonate with me more so than any UNC, Kansas, or Kentucky team.
No, I think you are the rule not the exception. If they ever adopted Huggy Bear's idea you'd see attendance and TV eyeballs drop way off. It's a totally dumb idea. Maybe he was sipping a little too much moonshine when he made those remarks. Or, maybe, he's actually really that dumb.

You do not speak for me. 😉

But, in this case, I think he looks foolish with this line of thinking.

Could we see something in the future like we saw in the past. Where the NIT became relative again. let them hold there tournament. if you only invite the majors what are you going to do maybe have 16 teams? let them start there tourney
a week ahead of the NIT it would be the tourney everyone watched.

He's only saying what probably 99% of the coaches and ADs in the power conferences think.

I'm not sure I agree on the coaches side of that. There are so many coaches that come from the mid-majority that I have to believe there's a decent sized contingent that wants things to remain relatively unchanged. Chris Beard is one example who spoke out after Huggs ran on and on.

The AD's and the University Presidents at "power" schools on the other hand, I agree most of them probably think this way. Greed ruins most things.

Please do not bring Bob Huggins’ name into an otherwise rational and civil discourse. And, no, I don’t care how much his former players and fellow coaches love him.
