I am sure they would like to be, but at this time they are not.

Pretty sure they regularly play Oak Hill but we are talking about next level commitment to travel costs. Borna would probably have some idea of their thoughts on this.

At what point does it become silly to continue referring to these institutions as high schools?

These are clearly basketball academies. There's basically no difference between an Oak Hill student and a kid who is playing for one of Barcelona's junior teams at La Masia.

And that's okay. But let's at least call a spade a spade.

I find it interesting that in high school the education seems to get pushed to the side forming a "Super Conference" but in DIII it can combine both education and high level athletics. The University Athletic Association consists of eight elite schools covering most of the country east of the Mississippi including University of Chicago, Emory, Carnegie Mellon, Case Western, NYU, Washington U, Rochester and Brandeis. No questioning whether any of these kids are student-athletes.

It's because the education isn't the point. And it really shouldn't be, either. These are elite basketball players, treating them as such doesn't strike me as an issue. We send high school students with particular aptitudes to magnet schools, we send others to vocational schools. Basketball is a multi billion dollar global business. If a kid wants to pursue it, they should.

I just find it silly that in America we have to pretend they're also students.

Agreed which is why I'm happy these kids are getting alternatives. My prior post was just an aside not a comparison.

I’ve officiated the Academic Bowl before, and you’d better bring your A game to that one, because the players and coaches know the rules and understand the game.

On September 14, 2015, David Harrison* decided to return to basketball and signed with the Las Vegas Dealers of the upcoming AmeriLeague. However, the league folded after it was discovered the founder was a con-artist.


*In college, he was named First Team All-Big 12 and earned Honorable Mention All-America honors by the Associated Press as a junior. He finished his college career as Colorado's all-time leading shot-blocker with 225 blocks. Harrison was drafted 29th overall in the 2004 NBA Draft by the Indiana Pacers.

Overtime is backed by Jeff Bezos. It's goal is to sign the most promising young players in the country.

David Harrison had washed out of a dozen leagues and was a 30-something reputable leagues had all had a look at. What's the point of this comparison?
