John Tenerowicz enters the transfer portal.
Not unlike when I sent a letter to the NBA offices in 1983 declaring that I'm going hardship and leaving school before all of my eligibility was up (that's what they did back then). I felt that I had accomplished all that I could in my 4 years in the all-campus intramural league tournaments at Grover and was ready to turn pro.

Never did get a reply from the NBA commissioner Larry O'Brien.

Trivia: who was the first college basketball player to declare hardship and apply for the NBA draft a dozen years before I did? Hint: he had a longer and more productive pro career than I did.

Ironically Walton left Mizzou to come to Ball State.

Has anyone in the MAC had worse luck this century than Ball State? Even BG and Miami fans probably think the Cards have had it rough.

Walton and El Amin were both seniors and I think Walton has been playing college basketball since the Majerus days as coach in Muncie. The tough loss for Ball St. is Coleman, the MAC frosh of the year only 2 seasons ago.

Are we in any kind of dead/no contact period right now as far as recruiting and transfers go?

According to this, currently in a dead period.

Seems very...not dead right now. Does that only apply to high school recruiting?

Totally agree. I think he was possibly their best player at the end of the season.

https://www.wsj.com/articles/ncaa-college-basketball-tran...

The article says 1296 players want to transfer, up from 600 last year.

Looks like Toledo and BGSU are both adding guys who will be ready to play in the MAC next year.

The more I think about it, rather than paying players, the NCAA will let players transfer anytime they want with no penalty.

There's news floating about that says the NCAA will approve a "first transfer free" with no sit out year, and everyone thereafter would have a sit out year. I'm paraphrasing, so I could be inaccurate here, but here's where I read it. Personally, I'm great with this if they make it all transfers this way, including grad. To me, the point of a grad transfer should be to get the degree, not to transfer to play. With that in mind, sitting a year shouldn't be an issue.

It is beginning to look like Jeff Boals and his staff have an opportunity to recruit our way to an even higher level. The options now expand to allow us to get an immediate contributor (it will be hard to beat the Wilson III find) and attract a freshman star ( again going to be hard to beat the Sears find). If they replicate last year’s performance, we could have a dynasty in the making.
Might just be me thinking this, but....Pump The Brakes here. :)
OK, check the “immediate contributor” box. Still need to pick up the future star.
OK check and check.

Ezumi is the future star and maybe the not distant future. If Boals and staff can hold on to all the pieces, the “dynasty” label may not be far fetched. Lots of “ifs” however.

I am excited about seeing how Towns develops under Boals' staff. I didn't know if he would stick around but he definitely has hops and athelticism. I think he was tentative this year. If he hits the weight room and works on his shot he could be a huge X factor and provide us some defensive length along witih Ezumi next year off the bench.

Towns and Sears were the two I was most worried would leave. No offense to those who transferred out intended. I see a lot of upside with Towns and I'd love to see it come to fruition here.

Sure do. Recruit the hell out of a kid then leave for greener pastures. Players should have the very same opportunity to transfer and play immediately.

Heard it on a sports show today, coach said "why would I even recruit a high school kid? I can go to the portal and find what I want and not have to deal with parents and AAU coaches" Later he talked about that there might be a need to monitor coaches at higher majors as he already knew of kids at mid majors with a good year who were openly getting phone calls from those high majors to recruit them to play right away at Power Conference schools.

Absolutely predictable. Wild, wild West. The worst is yet to come.
