Here is a link about the Alliance and the ramfications of it on mid-majors. There is a healthy discussion on basketball here. There has been a good discussion over on the football side of the board, but this article specifically mentions basketball and Coach Boals.

You know, the NCAA has always allowed teams to schedule more games when meant more money. Wouldn't be surprised if they do it here, too. They could treat an alliance game like an MTE and just not count it toward the limit.

I think the Alliance impact on football and basketball are like comparing apples to oranges. More specifically, I don't believe that football is going to be able to get away with padding their schedules anymore by playing "cupcakes" with the way the SEC expansion and the Alliance creation is shaping up. I don't see that being the case with basketball, which has more games in a season and a bigger tournament at the end of the year. In fact, let the big boys beat themselves silly through out the regular season, so that the underdog Mid-Majors can come in fresh and sharp by the time March Madness comes around.
