Jay Bilas said "he's not a good shooter". I don't understand that. I think it's because his form is unorthodox. But he's a good shooter by his stats.
Kinda the opposite of that line from Moneyball.

"If he's such a good hitter, why doesn't he hit good?"
They were saying this last night about almost every player in the draft and it got kind of annoying.

Can't shoot...not a good shooter...

That could be true for some of these guys as it's like they just look at the athleticism and don't even bother to worry about one of the most important aspects of the game. Hasn't Ben Simmons and Markelle Fultz taught these guys anything?

But some of the guys that got drafted were good shooters. Were they Steph Curry? No. But Jesus calm down.
Potential. So many kids get drafted into the NBA on potential and sheer athletic ability.

If you can run the pick and roll effectively, you're going to have a spot on an NBA roster. And there are worse things than passing to Benedict Leonard.

Tremendous. Congrats to the man, his family, the Ohio program, and the former coaching staff. They all had a hand in this.

Signed a contract, 2 years guaranteed with team option for Year 3, from what I read.

It's two years guaranteed with a team option for a third year.

So no two-way spot for him? I'm not that good at sports contracts. Still think the Clips have a big trade up their sleeve.

Good for him. Glad he was able to lock in an extra guaranteed year. The 2021 rookie minimum is $925k. That's slightly above my first salary out of OU back in 2005.

I think it's going to be a challenge for Preston to make a statistical impact in these games. I can't see him ever being asked to score, but everyone else is trying to get there's.

Lots of turnovers for the Clips so far against the Bucks, but none attributed to Jay.

This is garbage hoops with people being selfish. Jay doesn't fit into that.

I agree. Really hope he can put on 10 pounds minimum before the season starts.

Preston's in hell trying to get a decent screen from Oturu.

But that shows one of his weaknesses on offense: too reliant on screens.

NBA offenses run screens all over the place, at least.

Only two points, but 8 assists and only one turnover.

When the rest of the Clippers decided they were going to have to play some semblance of team ball or get embarrassed, I thought Jason’s strengths really started to show.

I totally agree with this. Jay does not fit with what his teammates were trying to pass as basketball. They were taking awful shots, driving against 4 defenders and forcing up shots. All the while Jay was playing D, keeping his teammates up and passing the ball. Teams like the Bucks win because of ball movement. Teams like the Clippers underachieve because, well, it showed last night. Culture is built with young players. Jay will catch on somewhere, but it probably won't be with the Clips.

This is summer league. This isn't the Clippers roster, and most folks playing don't have contracts. These teams have practiced together for like 5 days. Nobody implements their system in summer league. It's not even pre-season; it's a combine that amounts to pick up games.

Seemed like a lot of the guys were out there just trying to show what they can do individually rather than trying to win the actual game. Putting things on tape is a nice way to get noticed, but man that was ugly ass basketball to watch.

I agree. It got better toward the end, but still....ugly overall.

For most of the game it was Rucker Park. But when the game got tight the coach called a couple of inbounds plays to make sure they got the ball in Jason's hands so they would end up with a good shot. He is going to need to get more aggressive taking it inside because I don't think he even tried to penetrate once. But if he's making the passes he did make to the normal roster he's in double digit assists. Speaking of Rucker Park I may have to turn the volume down if the same announcing crew is working tonight. Not sure I can take another night of cliche followed by cliche followed by cliche....
