An assistant told me a very similar story to what Boals said about AJ Brown. Said he was coming back multiple times but it ended up being 100% about money and the family placed a very high emphasis on that. That's fair and their right it is just a bummer.

Elmore's exit also likely tied directly to him being second fiddle to AJ. Imagine you're Elmore and AJ says he's coming back so you hit the portal only later to find out he's leaving.

Edit: I saw a tweet last week from random NCAA basketball account that was ranking best backcourts in the country, listing the 3 guards on each team on the list and he listed Florida with AJ Brown listed. If he starts at Florida good on him, and he made the right move, but that would be shocking to me.

I always considered AJB to be a flight risk, and then injuries likely hurt his plans, then his brother went to Florida. Felt like just a matter of time on that one. Still hurts, but think he would thrive here this season (if healthy). Would be surprised to see him get meaningful minutes at UF, but wish him well.

Elmore - I think he was just needing some fresh scenery. He just always never seemed to put it together. Had small moments, but never consistent. Injuries hurt him as well, but having him end up at BALLS is unfortunate, because he would play a big role here. Starting over at a team in the same conference, but a less heralded program... good luck, kid.

I wish both players well but AJ will barely sniff the floor at Florida. The Gators have turned into a legit force and he could barely hang with MAC players on a nightly basis. His injury issues derailed him from the start and I hope he just stays healthy. Elmore would have been passed up by several guys this year from Conners to Kelly. Good on him to transfer and I look forward to watching him brick fadeaways from the free throw line this year.

The Field of 68’s Top 25 Mid-Major Preview-> https://x.com/thefieldof68/status/1968786379543822501?s=4...

For those unfamiliar, The Field of 68 is Jeff Goodman’s and Robbie Hummel’s platform. Recently, they brought in Rocco Miller and Sean Paul to cover Mid-Major and both have been pretty dialed in at this level for years.

4 MAC schools in Top 25 with Akron (10), Miami (11), Ohio (20), and Kent State (24). Even more interesting, Illinois State is #3. Arkansas State is #23.

Coming off of a ho-hum year I kind of expected us to be mentioned but not highly-regarded. I think that will change if we can get an upset in the non-con. Barring injuries I love our main rotation of Pavs, Elliott, Conners, Breath, Simmons, Hadaway and Sheldon. I am excited to see Burris and Kelly get some run and who will emerge from Kuany and Evans.

Very surprised to learn that BVP's transfer to UVA was a surprise to Boals. Both he and Mark Sears had promised they would return.
Thought that was interesting as well. I wonder what the relationship is like now between BVP and Boals?
