That had a TOS “life on the road in the MAC” feel when the lead evaporated and this team willed themselves to the win. Really awesome.
Hard not to think that, but certainly a different feeling when you have Boals on the bench. His demeanor is something to watch with these guys.

How nice was that to see BRod and BVP get to see the ball go through the net?

Loved BRod's take to the bucket in crunch time. Staying aggressive. Great to see.

This game was won with a ton of grit, but also with great shooting. I’ll take 50% from the field, 40% from 3 and 90% from the line all day every day.

Great Victory. Took every rally by the Zips and answered them every single time!

Radio call of the game for me from the Akron radio station. "Oh, my! Miles Brown at 6'1" just went up and took the rebound away from the 7 footer"!!!!!!
This team had teams make runs into their big leads time and again. It would be nice to see them put someone away but on the flip side of that they have never panicked.

We are going to have one of the better strength of record ratings at this point in the season in school history. Maybe top 30 out of 350+ in D1. As weak as the bottom of the MAC is, We would need to go about 29-5 or something like that to finish there. In the summer many of us wouldn't have been surprised by that thinking Preston would return instead of getting himself into first round projections for the NBA, Wilson would be healthy instead of tearind his ACL, and McDay would be OK. It's pretty fantastic that we can be 11-2 with losses only to national contenters.

But it doesn't feel to me like 29-5 is in the cards. Too many close wins without many blowouts means some luck has probably been involved in getting to 11-2. Realistically, (not whining just being real) we probably aren't as good as our record indicates. That's OK. Considering what we have unexpectedly lost we are pretty @#$%! Good.

How can that FG % be that high when EVERYONE KNOWS: "Carter misses more bunnies than anyone and it is a carryover from X"

My attempt to channel my inner BTC

Certainly the most exciting finish all year. Hate to see a 14 point lead evaporate, but good teams find a way to survive with a win especially on the road. Boals' "Bend don't break" mantra really rang true tonight.

Announcer's comparison of Sears to Jalen Brunson is spot on. Tough to defend and a good game to have at next level..

Did John Groce hypnotize the officials after that technical call?

Nonetheless, Marc Sears cares not for your weak homer calls, zebras, and put us on his back. Nice win!
I don't usually complain much about the officiating, but, whew, that looked like some blatant home cooking.

Loved the determination and toughness to withstand each Akron run.

For while there I felt I was watching an episdoe of the Twilight Zone. There was a stretch where the horrible officiating was only eciplised by our inability to make a bucket, including shots taken in the paint. Thankfully, the hypnosis wore off and we fought our way to a gritty victory. Amazing composure from the team and Coach Boals to overcome all of it. Hopefully the brain and muscle memory that came from this game will carry us into the Big Dance.

Just got home from the game. Was great to see all the green in the JAR. Akron fans standing for offense through the under 16 timeout in the first half made me chuckle. Ended up being a MAC tourney type game that will only pay dividends going forward. The last few years the team did not come back after the opponent rallied like Akron did tonight. Glad to see them fight back tonight.

Out of curiosity, Did Akron get called for a fouls after Groces technical? I didn’t remember one but might have missed it in the excitement. I know they only were whistled 5 times in the second half.

Edit: I Laos wanted to add I liked Schmocks defense on the last 2 possessions. Especially on Ali after the switch.

Anyone see the tech call on Boals? Seemed like he was just talking to the players when it was called... oh well. Impressive that we fought through the adversity of a couple rough calls on the road.

Really impressive win!

Let's go! We are now in the driver's seat of the MAC
I was only a few rows back of the bench,. The lead official (Tim Stewart) came over and told Boals Edwin Young T’d him up for being out of the coaches box. I couldn’t see where he was standing through the scorers table, but I got the feeling Boals disagreed.

Huge win on the road. Beat Mode Sears is something to watch, eh? Dude can look smooth and strong/physical at the same time. Thought we were toast after that epic run by Akron. The D looks special. We get back Roderick and BVP back to “normal/historical” shooting % and this could be a really really fun team.

...nobody fouled him. He had only two FT tries all night.

Six Ts in the last two games at the JAR. Three by the Zips; three by the opponents. 18 fouls has to be a season high for Ohio.

Good omen to open the season with two road wins at places that traditionally have been tough Ws for us.

4th true road win of season and against Akron which has been very tough place to win. Bobcats focused and picked up a critical win. 2 road wins to start the MAC slate. One Big advantage this team has is the free throw shooting down the stretch. Preston wasn't a great foul shooter and with Sears at 90% Bobcats a bit stronger closing these type of games. Free throws were the difference.

It was great to see the response from our guys when Akron made their run. Roderick only had 5 but I thought both of his buckets were big, one to stretch the lead and one when we were struggling to score. BVP's late 3 was huge, too.

I only barely heard on the radio while coming home that BVP had hurt his shoulder, but obviously he came back in quickly. I thought he seemed a little tentative to shoot right after he came in. Did he take a hard fall or what happened?

No, it was extremely light contact with the man he was guarding, think it was the motion not the contact. It looked to me like it was out of place / needed adjustment. They showed him in the tunnel with the trainer and he was right back a couple minutes later. Can't imagine it is anything to be concerned with.
