This young man is one of my favorite players. His hustle has been off the charts the last two years. It wasn't too many month ago he helped clinched the game against Virginia with some free throws down the stretch. I hope he is ok physically/mentally.

BVP posted a tweet yesterday about getting back to work and there were pics from practice. If they were pics from Thursday's practice, I swear I saw McDay in a huddle.

I saw him as well...that was him. I hope he can go. He is such an integral player for us from a leadership, hustle and calming standpoint.

Yep. We need him, but if he can't go, it's none of our business with what he's dealing with. Just wish him well.

I understand that medical issues and I presume grade issues are private, I’m not so sure that discipline issues should be private. Am I alone in that?

The whole season of Lunden Mcday has been bewildering to date.

During the off season everything seemed fine. Fully expecting a 2 year starter to return and remain in his place as an unspectacular but solid contributor every night on a NCAA tourney type team.

Then the season started and Brown took his starting spot. Stuff happens. Maybe Brown got better. It was odd but McDay played 20ish minutes off the bench and we were winning so seemed okay.

Now he just vanishes for personal reasons leaving an already thin team in the lurch. Now I get it, life is more important than basketball, so whatever he's dealing with - I wish him nothing but the best in dealing with it and hope all gets worked out. That's the most important thing for him as a person.

And of course he has a right to privacy so a bunch of dudes on a message board don't always get to "know" what's going on. I'm sure the team knows and they'll figure it out which is all that really matters.

But the cherry on the top of odd cake is the minute posters even began asking questions about where he is, why he's gone, what the motives or reasons may or may not be (perfectly reasonable given his importance, our expectations this year, the position his absence leaves us in, and the vagueness around everything) they got instantly struck down by the message board God's of all knowing truth and morality. YOU DON'T GET TO KNOW AND HOW DARE YOU EVEN QUESTION IT!

That type of response just makes the whole darn thing even MORE head scratching. So odd.

Depends on the discipline issue. If it involves something legal or a violation of the student code of conduct, that should be public. But with a violation of team rules, disclosure is strictly up to the coach and usually not made public.

HIPPA only protects medical info do if that’s what it is, I understand. Other stuff, not so much.
It would seem ticket holders who certainly are some kind of stakeholder in the basketball enterprise here at Ohio should be told something if it’s not health related, why not just say not health related if it’s not. It’s no big deal to me, but it would be nice to know something about the young mans status going forward. Hope he plays Saturday.

FERPA covers educational rights. Without the permission of an adult student, grades, enrollment status, etc... are not supposed to be disclosed. I can't say if disciplinary status is covered under that for things other than like "grade probation" or whatever they call it now.

As I understand HIPPA, it only applies to medical providers, insurance companies, and some kinda insurance-clearing-house middleman type organizations. However that's criminal stuff...anyone can sue anyone anytime.

Has anyone in the media actually asked the coach what his status is? That might be a good starting point.

^This. Is it my imagination that so-called major programs have such information more readily available from one source or other? Maybe due to more massive interest or the additional people to ask such questions? I don’t pretend to know but it sure seems that way.

Yeah, that's the bad news . . . not in layup lines.
Good news? BRod is coming out of his slump today.

Perfect from the field before heading to the bench with 2 fouls 3 min into the game.

Here's an excerpt from Jason Arkley's report about today's game:

Junior guard Lunden McDay was not with the team for a third straight game on Saturday. Boals expressed no confidence in when he might return to active status, or further illuminated reasons for his absence. The program’s official stance is that McDay is out indefinitely due to personal reasons.

Pressed for more details Saturday, Boals didn’t have much to offer.

“Yeah, definitely,” Boal said when asked if McDay was still a part of the Ohio program.

“It’s nothing COVID related, nothing disciplinary related. Personal reasons,” the coach said.

“Nothing really I can do. It’s a time issue,” he said. “I think the big thing is concentrating on who we have and getting our guys better.”

Portal because he is dissatisfied with minutes! From a personal point of view, I am concerned and hope he is okay physically, academically, and medically!

This all makes no sense to occur in the middle of the year.

And the oddities and vagueness continues. Words like "indefinitely" coupled with it not being medical (at least not covid anyway) doesn't sound good. When the coach has to pull out the "we're focusing on who we have" it makes it sound an awful lot like he's not coming back. Those are things people say after somebody transfers or is done for the year.

The "I'm entering the portal because I'm unhappy I lost my starting spot" theory is starting to sound more plausible sadly.

I'll say this. Losing Preston, Wilson, possibly McDay and having BRod go into a total funk has utterly decimated our season chances. That's only 4/5 of our starting lineup from last year. So much for continuity. At this point without McDay coming back, BRod coming out of it, Wilson getting healthy and some new comers stepping up we'll be lucky to be a middle of the pack MAC team.

I mean…very hard to disagree with any of this. Without these missing pieces, it’s going to be a bumpy ride in conference play. BVP and Carter can never get into foul trouble. Seems like we are in in a ho-hum type of stretch and struggling to find our way. Never envisioned this season without Wilson and McDay. It’s a flat out killer. Sure would be nice to see Izuma get minutes, but he’s clearly not a rotation guy right now and might not be this year.

Im kinda in the sky is not falling camp.

Sears is wonderful. BRod wont be in a funk much longer. Got a 5th and 6th year senior up front. And i like Brown.

AJ is getting minutes and production despite being so young, he should continue to improve by MAC tourney.

Will be interesting to who else steps up in MAC play.

Most MAC teams will not have the lineup to match us. Buffs does. I do not know anyone else who has JC, BVP and Sears type of trio.

Though we have been given almost no information about the situation, I feel like we may be able to infer some things. It sounds like the door is open for Lunden to return whenever he is ready. That tells me that whatever's going on, it is truly personal life stuff, and probably not something that generated from the team or the school. If not starting bothered him to the point that he takes a leave, I'd like to think Boals would pull a John Groce to KJ Walton and tell him it's best that he leave. If you can't buy into the ebbs and flows of the main rotation, then it is to find a new team. I wish Lunden all the best in whatever it is and hope to see him return soon.
