I think we all agree the players laugh at this board (if they even look or know about it) and the supposed "knowledge" any of us bring from Billy (those that have been a little bit around an athletic department), to Love (those that think they have the chops to run a department), to me (those that have played and watch a lot of sports - like that's a qualifier), to even ex-players (that played a little last century).

+1

And with that said...we are all rooting for #3 to figure it out. We can't achieve what we want this team to achieve with him shooting 13% from the 3 point line.

Besides B-Rod, I'm just beginning to wonder what the absence of McDay is having on the entire team. Gotta think missing a guy who's (A) been in the program a while, (B) was expected to be a leader and (C) played huge minutes for Ohio in the past is having a huge affect on the entire team's psyche.

I know he has struggled but saw some things that make me think he has turned the corner.Defense, hustle,Knock down a three, going to the basket Just would like to see the entire team make that extra pass to turn that contested shot into a wide open shot

Thinking back to the year after Sweet 16 appearance and Kellogg goes cold during the month of February.

Positive is that Roderick is doing it in December when there are no MAC opponents.

Shooters do not keep missing if they keep confidently firing.

Unless he is physically hurting or his vision has changed; he'll be making BIG hoops from downtown which will deflate the MAC opponents just when they saw and opening!

Keep firing.

I watched how Ben received the ball from teammates during the game yesterday. He rarely received passes that allowed him to catch the ball in rhythm. He'd have to jump to grab the ball on passes or lean over and snag it with one hand. Those kinds of passes aren't going to help a shooter get set up. Getting him cleaner looks would help with form and confidence, IMO.

Be careful or Jerry will tell you that you know very little about basketball.

Good analysis though!

I thought Roderick took a step forward last year shooting, driving to the basket and playing defense. I don't think he got worse over the Summer. Hopefully, he's saving some of those makes for conference play.

I am surprised Coach does not insist that Roderick drive to the basket or shorten his length of shots on his initial possessions prior to launching the 17%- 3 ball.

If the shooting percentage has not increased in two games, it seems we should start one of our freshmen. With Towns or Clayton starting on paper we appear to be a stronger team.

I agree with this. I never thought that Roderick at his best was very consistent. He'd have a game every now and then when he'd be like Bean on steroids and hit a number of threes in a row and carrying the team, but on the average night he seemed to me not a reliable outside shooter. Now, every time he takes a shot I find myself shuddering even before the shot gets airborne. I was hoping this year for a more reliable and steady BenRod, but instead we have a player that seems to have regressed in virtually all phases of the game, except, perhaps, on defense. Recently he's blown layups with about the same frequency as three-point shots. I think it's time he slides down the bench until he gets out of his funk. I think we've wasted too much time waiting for him to "find himself."

Shooters shoot. He'll get out of it. There is a reason Boals keeps putting him out there and encouraging him to get up shots.

Shooters do shoot.

But it's time for BRod to be more of a maker.

Reason is he doesn't have anyone else to put out there in his place.

Watching some of the past games and seeing the shots he's taken, the misses are good misses at least. I know of a professional shooting coach that used to say as long as the ball is on line with the rim, its a good shot. Doesn't matter if it's an air ball or clanks off the rim. BRod has it lined up, just have to find the right touch for it to go in.

+1 That was always my problem in pick-up basketball. I was quite the shooter. It was the making part that often alluded me. BRod playing D1 college hoops should be held to much higher standard.

That hoop late with the right hand off glass will hopefully be a season changer for him.

All about confidence.

Thought his defensive presence was a lot better tonight as well.

He’s getting really close. He had at least 2 - 3 attempts against Broncos that were halfway down and spun out. His first attempt tonite against the Zips spun out. The kid is just snakebit but he’s getting really close. Shooters shoot and he’ll be ok. I thought he played a nice game tonite and contributed without making multiple 3’s.

he also wanted the ball after he made that three - was hoping he'd get a few in a row, Prior to the three he didn't show much movement, when he did make cuts they appeared to lack speed and aggression. After the three he showed more bounce. here's hoping he's getting his mo back.

Looked promising that he's beginning to come out of the long slump. Made a big three and, as mentioned, a crucial layup. Something to build on. Let's hope we see more progress in the next game or two. A real breakout against the Flushes on Friday would be great!

Idk how many of you go back and watch the games but he looked solid on defense. He’s not typically known for that but he locked up Ali Ali a few times.

Agreed. Seems silly to be excited about a 5 point night but his 2 jump shots both looked good/natural/comfortable. I say pounce on it and design lots of spot up shots for him Friday and have him hoist 8 or so.
