Ohio University Director of Athletics Julie Cromer will co-chair an NCAA committee charged with realigning Division 1 athletics.

The NCAA created the Division I Transformation Committee to implement recommendations that are expected to be made by its Constitution Committee that will transform college sports. Cromer will co-chair the committee with Greg Sankey, commissioner of the Southeastern Conference.

“I’m honored to represent Ohio University and the Mid-American Conference in this work to realign Division I to best serve student-athletes in the future, given the changing landscape of college athletics,” Cromer said.
The NCAA’s Constitution Committee has been meeting since August and is asking each division to review its rules to ensure they are aligned with new principles.

“The NCAA is taking steps to reimagine itself to more effectively meet the needs of student-athletes, and we’re proud that Julie will play a crucial role in that effort,” Ohio University President Hugh Sherman said.

Cromer became Ohio University’s athletic director in August 2019 after serving in several roles at the University of Arkansas, Indiana University and the NCAA. Ohio University student-athletes have enjoyed a string of successes in her tenure, including multiple post-season appearances, record NCAA graduation rates in 2021 and a cumulative 3.32 GPA in the spring of 2021. In that time 18 student-athletes from eight different programs have received the MAC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Award, and 221 have received Academic All-MAC honors.

Honest question: Would her time be better spent advancing the interests of Ohio University?

This strikes me as being all about the resume.

Interesting choice of words. They are going to "re-imagine" the NCAA.

I've reimagined my bank account.

Wonder if the SEC will even be a part of the NCAA by the time this is done. Seriously.

Well, someone finally got around to getting her a Wikipedia page today. I wonder who that was. :)

Schaus did the same kind of things. I don't see where this would necessarily detract from her work at Ohio. I think it brings recognition to Ohio to have our AD on an important committee.

Yes, Schaus did participate in these sorts of things. Of course, he had some accomplishments under his belt. Not so much our current AD, who has been very much a self-promoter outside the institution while lacking focus on the mundane aspects of serving her constituents.

The upcoming changes to college sports are an existential crisis for programs like ours.

That our AD getting a seat at the table isn't met as welcomed news because our fanbase is perpetually focuses on petty BS is a perfect encapsulation of the current state of OU athletics.

This thread will soon be able pretzel lines and Julie Comer not replying to emails. The definition of fiddling while Rome burns.

Couldn't agree more. The quicker we get the flip out of the P5 football arms race and focus on sports we can reasonably compete in terms of $$ for championships the better.

Again, we are not in the P5 football arms race. Never have been. And dropping football doesn't add to basketball budget. Just so we are all clear.

Not at a 1:1 ratio, but dropping football would almost certainly come with an increase in the budget of at least basketball.

There is nothing stopping them from more investing more in basketball today. One of the first rules of budgeting is if the activity goes away then the dollars go away.

I just discovered this and thought it was funny. Ohio apparently took her picture from Arkansas for OhioBobcats.com and photoshopped her blouse so it would be green. Whoever did it did a good job. :)
