Hey - they made some signs with sharpie's and highlighters and scotch taped them around the Convo. A couple might have even trickled over onto West Green. Isn't that good enough?

Do we still have uniforms and everything? I heard there was a rec league meeting coming up soon and I think they said we're supposed to provide our own unis.

Maybe somebody check with the AD to make sure?

They should call it the Sports Good Information Department. Sure, highlight the good stuff but don't try to hide the bad. For example, they never mentioned the volleyball's team's record in their write-ups. Or my all time favorite is when the headline announced the track and field team came in third in the so and so tourney, only to learn later that it was a triangular meet!

There are 358 Division 1 basketball teams. 30 of them still have not publicly announced their non-conference schedule. We are one of those teams.

We also have not put out a news release announcing IJ, Olumide, or Tommy's signings.
Did the Ohio sports information department suffer cuts during COVID? All of this is embarrassing.

Or, when recapping the past season, the tell-tale "earned a spot in the NCAA tournament." Or, "played in the Famous Planters Peanut Bowl." Translation: "We lost."

D1 Docket and Bart Torvik's site have us playing at Stetson on December 11th...
Unless I missed it, it's a late addition...

Interesting. Had to look up Stetson, because I couldn't think of their mascot. It's a good one. The Stetson Hatters. Took me a minute looking at their logo to realize it's an S with a Stetson hat within it.

Former Ohio women's basketball head coach Lynn Bria is the women's coach at Stetson, and has had a pretty good run.

I wonder if this was to give Dwight a homecoming of sorts. Stetson is closer to Orlando than Tallahassee, but you have to work with whoever can make it work.

Another road game on a Saturday. This one against an A-Sun opponent. I'm hopeful that at some point, we can hear from coach and/or Cromer about how this schedule came together, and some of the "why's" and challenges they faces on dates for games and getting opponents. I still have this little bug in the back of my head that wonders if they're scheduling to avoid having big home crowds on Saturday's because of COVID.

4 League Titles, over 200 wins at Stetson in her 8 years. 343 total wins.

Would love to know this answer as well. By the way, have to believe there is a recruiting hook here for Boals. No doubt, AJ Brown will make the trip with his brother I believe and maybe some other guys from his team or in Orlando area. Assuming no HS games that night. Smart late add to schedule.

Update: Brown's Orlando Christian Prep team does not play on Saturday, December 11th. Really makes sense now for this game to happen so late.

Speaking of positive SID writing:

"From 1999 to 2006, Bria was the head coach at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. She is second all-time in career wins at Ohio and was the first coach in Bobcats history to sign a recruit who would become Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year. Bria’s first-year players earned MAC All-Freshman honors three consecutive years; only seven other players in the 20+ year history of the program had done that. In addition to coaching, Bria also taught a class in the education department."

All true statements though. And she's had great success at Stetson, and has received support that was never even remotely available here.

In that case, they're doing a less than stellar job of getting weekend home games in November and December.

Random note on Stetson if anyone on this board is in the area. My inlaws live in DeLand and it's actually a pretty nice little college town. Persimmon Hollow is a good brewery and there are some solid restaurants near the campus. Also close to Blue Springs State Park if you want to do some manatee watching.

Sorry for the late eyes on this, just caught it. No... The football, wrestling, and mayyyyyyyybe Men's golf SID left over the summer. The woman that covered MBB last season is still there, she just slid over and now has FB responsibility too. I said this on the FB board, but they did lose 1 of their 3 SID positions to create a Director of Content position, so if I had to guess they're going to go to a 2 full time SID model and then fill out with GAs, students, etc.

MAC announced the national TV schedule. Our Saturday home games vs Kent and Toledo have been moved to Friday nights.

There's also a possibility that our two remaining MAC Saturday home games get moved to Friday as February 4 is both a CBSSN and ESPNU 21 day wildcard selection (WMU 2/5) and February 25 is a CBSSN 21 day wildcard selection (Akron 2/26). ESPNU has a MAC time slot for that Saturday at noon.

This is the price we pay for being one of the favorites. When Buffalo had their big year, they played like every Friday, on the road and at home.

The only guaranteed Saturday home game is 12/4 vs. St. Francis.

I literally hate the Mid American Conference offices and this TV deal. I'd lay money that Ohio won't play a single Saturday home conference game because of this.

It's the price we pay for having crappy conference leadership that doesn't give a shit about ticket buying fans and alumni. Sorry, but it's true.

That certainly can be true too.

This announcement works for me in some ways and in others it doesn't, as an out of town fan. I'm far less busy on Friday nights than I am Saturday afternoons. But I contributed to the Convo Virtual Sellout and my contribution is supposed to grant me four ticket vouchers. I wanted to use those to come to Athens with my son twice this season, but it looks like right now, the only thing I can count on is St. Francis. I am not driving in from Cincinnati to watch us play Capital.

If you want to change the equation on Ohio Basketball, you have to change the revenue. Biggest driver of revenue is TV (albeit basketball TV revenue is dwarfed by football TV revenue). So you play when they say. I know you follow UD. They play Friday nights, Tuesday afternoons, weeknights at 6 PM, weeknights at 9 PM. It's part fo the deal.
