It seem very unusual that we do not have our schedule all wrapped up by this time of the year.
WHAT'S THE ISSUE HERE?
YEA I KNOW THE TALK THAT NO ONE WANT'S TO PLAY US IN THE P5 SCHOOLS BUT REALLY WITHOUT JP OUR TEAM IS NOT AS STRONG AS IT WOULD HAVE BEEN WITH HIM.

Consider that it's been an unusual year. Actually a couple unusual years. By comparison, Cincinnati just announced their schedule yesterday. I think it's just what's going to happen this year.

Am I completely missing this, but why is Buffalo not at Ohio on the schedule?

With this schedule format, two of MAC teams we will only play once, and Buffalo is one this year.

Ridiculous. The one and done opponents should come from the MAC West. Aside from BG/Toledo, all the rivalries are intra-division, and it shouldn't be a big thing to lock that series into a two-a-year arrangement. And to not recognize that the two teams who competed in last year's final will also be picked 1-2 in the preseason polls by scheduling two games is a brain dead decision.

This is an atrocious decision from the MAC office. How the one and done doesn’t come from the West division boggles my mind. Can’t believe I just noticed this and I can’t wrap my head around it.

I don't like it that Ohio is only playing Buffalo once. But divisions no longer exist.

that makes sense...but for all the match-ups to miss...Ohio and Buffalo are high-value games for MAC audiences. I guess it helps UB and OU avoid a possible loss...but from a MAC marketing point of view it is a clear miss...

My bad...forgot about division change. I guess I just meant no reason to play a school from the old west division twice over playing Buffalo twice.

Did you use MAC and the word "marketing" in the same sentence?

Yes I did. A boy can still dream, y’know.

Two more dates:

11/6 Capital (Exhibition)
11/26 Concordia Ann Arbor (NAIA)

That's probably it for the schedule. Had a feeling the last date would be a non-D1.

So to recap

11/9 Belmont
11/13 @ Cleveland State
11/15 Robert Morris
11/19 @ Kentucky
11/22 Mt. St. Mary's
11/26 Concordia Ann Arbor
12/1 @ LSU
12/4 St Francis (PA)
12/15 Marshall
12/22 USC Upstate

They could add a game between St. Francis and Marshall, but that's also final exams time. Conceivable of something between Marshall and Upstate, too.

Looks to me like we have two huge tests (UK, LSU), three or four games against average-good MAC-like talent (Belmont, Cleveland State, Marshall, possibly MSM) three games we should win somewhat comfortably (Robert Morris, St. Francis, Upstate) and one game we should blow out (CUAA). I'd probably trade one of those comfortable win games for another high end mid major or low level P5, even if it were a road game, if it were up to me.

To say that I'm particularly disappointed in the number of non-conference home games that fall on a weekend would be an understatement. So including the Friday game around Thanksgiving against a school we've never heard of, we have 7 of 18 home games on the weekend. Now, the MAC did us no favors by only giving us four games on Saturday's, which is another issue entirely.

Someone talk me down off the annoyance ledge here and rationalize this for me.

You have to also consider at least one of those Saturday home games will get bumped to Friday night for TV.

For the life of me, I just will never understand scheduling a non-D1 school. And it happens every year. I mean there has to be a better alternative. All in all....it's a solid schedule. Somehow split Kentucky/LSU and head out of non-con with only one loss and this team will be on the national radar heading into January.

I dunno about Belmont being "average-good MAC like talent"! Won 26 last year and have virtually everyone back. Lindy's ranks Bruins 39th in country. Nick Muszynski (Columbus St. Charles, don't believe he was offered by Ohio) is preseason POY in OVC. It'll be a battle royale between him and Wilson. This is one of the premier midmajor programs in the country. We win this one and it will be huge!

I also have a somewhat sneaky suspicion some people may be upset with the home E3/+ schedule this year. I’ve been wrong before, but I’d be curious to see how these games make it on air.

You may be onto something. Volleyball is usually broadcast but I see no indication that our home matches this weekend will make it to air.

Definitely on the high end. Comparable to the highest level MAC games we've seen through the years. I consider this one an even match up

If we are playing 20 conference games then there, I think, will only be 10 non-conference games.

A lot of bodies left over the summer but none of the bodies have been replaced. Last I heard there were students that were somewhat trained on how to do this stuff, but I’d be curious if this was the year they finally went to a production company to have trained bodies in seats.

That though will likely mean a reduction in the number of broadcasts since the cost to staff those would be much more significant than the free it used to be.
