I know there have been a ton of scheduling thoughts in multiple threads and I think trying to keep it one one thread will help everyone out.

Huge year for scheduling. We are going to have great difficulty in finding teams wanting to play Ohio in non-conference games. I think somehow Boals is going to have to get a massive top 10 game and I'm not talking in a pre-season tournament...although hopefully this happens as well. But I think he really needs to look at teams like Kansas, Duke, Gonzaga, Michigan...etc....bite the bullet and play a game at their place.

And then the schedule needs to have at least 4-5 games against quality quad 1 opponents. We have to beef it up and I know he's going to have great difficulty getting just one quad 1 team to come to Athens.

Duke would be a great team for ou to play. Afterward boals could talk with coach k about how to utilize players and how to make the team better. Such advice would be valuable. Also Indiana would be good to play and perhaps negotiate a home and home with. Dayton, Xavier and Cincinnati are good opponents. Definitely should avoid Gonzaga as the team does play in a low end conference. No point in getting blown out by a team like that.

Thats confusing, 2000. Since when has the West Coast been a "low end conference"? The West Coast is normally about 10th out of 32 total conferences.
Not seeing how that is "low end". And scheduling is something you do with individual teams, not conferences.

I seriously doubt that Coach K sets up post-game seminars with opposing coaches to advise them on how to use their personnel. The closest you're going to come to that are coaching clinics that many coaches attend, and youtubes. Also, coaches have their own networks of mentors they consult with. I think Boals has a damn good concept of how to use his personnel. If he wants to ask people for advice, he's got his own network, like Coach Matta.

I think they all would just want to get on the bus and go home.

I'm hopeful we can still get a home game with the Bonnies. I hope the opener two seasons ago was not a guarantee game. They're always rock solid and should return all five double digit scoring starters from this past season's A-10 championship squad.

I'm also curious if the games we scheduled this past season were one-offs or home/homes. We could get Marshall at home and a good road game with Cleveland State.

Hah whatever man. You didn't know that's how Coach K and Cal et al make all that supplemental income? They wander around the bowels of mid-major facilities during post-game and teach em up! 😜

This is silly. Shoot, if that's the plan let's just skip the 40 point loss just to chat with the coach post-game and just hire Coach K directly! Maybe then we'll figure out how to win these darn games.

A) Coaching at this level is a very small fraternity. They all already know each other whether they play/talk post-game or not. Emails, phone calls, texts, agents, coaching clinics, basketball camps with any other coach are all at their fingertips at a moments notice.
B) As Jeff alluded Boals has his own set of mentors and advisors he trusts already in place
C) Boals doesn't "need" input outside his own brain, his staff and his trusted group to determine how to utilize his players and win games

You schedule Duke for the $, to get a national TV game, to raise your strength of schedule and if you're really good or really lucky maybe put a Quad1 win on your tournament resume. That's it.

The St Thomas gig was a great one to attend. I sat with one of the players dad for 2 games and enjoyed his insights on the players and games.

The Florida State fans were a hoot as well. Never saw as much bling in one place in my life.

I would like to see us build a schedule of home and home series with Cleveland State, Marshall, Wright State, Dayton, Youngstown State, Xavier, Cincinnati, Duquesne, St Bonaventure, Morehead State, Butler, Robert Morris. 6 home and six away non conference. Playing these teams keep travel cost low, but would be a challenging schedule most years. Big home games every year. 2 big east, 3 Atlantic ten, 1 American athletic makes this schedule strong yet balanced with winnable games vs regional mid major rivals. Would be top 100 non conference strength of schedule. Very few 200 or 300 ranked teams most years from this state. Lots of top 100 games.

The odds of getting home and home from any of UC, UD, XU and Butler isn't likely. I'd be thrilled to see one off road games at any of those places though - especially next year.

Now, I think a 1 for 1 with these would be really good: CSU, St Bonnie, Duquesne, WSU.

Lastly, I'd rather see a Morehead, YSU, Bobby Mo on the schedule than a SWAC team, as we've pretty much beaten into the ground in past years.

Please, Country, show some respect. The way "Bobby Mo" handled us the last couple times we played them we need to call them Mr. Morris (cue Sidney Poitier).

Ha! True. One of my favorite silly memories happened when their coach (Toole?) asked a player about 'the boogey man'.

We may not necessarily lose by as much as 40. More likely in the 20-30 range. I'm not talking about a lengthy sit down but just asking a few brief questions. We should still playbduke just to be at Cameron indoor

Dayton I thought was going to play in Athens a few years ago but the time they wanted to come was when our students weren't in session.

P5's could be open to a 1-1 basketball for a return football game with a lower buyout. PAC-12 or Big XII programs outside of the big powers. Texas Tech or Oregon State are good examples because they don't have Alabama money to buy home games.

You're not wrong. I'm just pointing out saying that we need to get home and home with those schools is very, very difficult. If it were easy, or likely to happen, it would have been done already, and they would already be on the schedule.

The Purdue games were excellent creative scheduling. The issue with UD was that they wanted to play during finals week and Saul and/or the AD wouldn't do it. To be honest, I'm not sure why that's such a hang up on a one off basis, but it was then.

So yes, it's possible, but it's not likely.

Not too surprising to me that we would try to “bump it up”. I of course don’t know, but I suspect that Boals promised, as part of the season ending conversation with the players, to do what he (and probably with Julie’s help and concurrence) could with the schedule to make remaining a Bobcat even more attractive. Only question in my mind will be the willingness of other programs to agree to it.

Some possibles for multi-team events next year: Preseason NIT -- Memphis + 3 teams; Orlando Invitational -- Alabama, Iona, Iowa State + 5 teams; Diamond Head Classic -- Hawaii + 7 teams; Gotham Classic -- Pitt, St. Johns, others.

I think this year upgrading your schedule may be much easier then you think. Especially for home games. You might not get what you would call the cream of the crop but your going to be able to get some very good teams from the MVC Atlantic 10 and other places.

Because you have a pretty decent chance to be a top 75 team so that would mean like a loyola of chicago type team would come play you because they could see you as a chance at a Quad 1 win.

So i think you could end up with a bunch of Quad 1 slash quad 2 games. i guess time will tell
