If 6,800 showed up on a Tuesday night against Bowling Green, I’m hopeful 10,000 fans will show up to watch Jeff Boals and company Friday night against Toledo. Really hope the marketing department does its job as well and does everything it can to make it happen. This team deserves at least 10,000 fans for a mammoth game against the Rockets.

Friday at 6:00 might be a tough ask. Saturday at 2:00 and I'd say an okay shot. Gotta give those Columbus alumni a fair chance to get there. I'd be very pleased with 8K.

Agree. Though to get to the Convo from Cbus by 6:00 is a bitch for anyone coming from Cbus as I did for Many Years (thankful now moved back to Athens County and only less than 5 mile drive to the Convo).

If they leave Cbus by 3:30 latest maybe - and depending on what part of the metro leaving from which if from North metro adds at least another 30 minutes - The 270/33 interchange is a Huge backlog, then a drag all the way to Lancaster bypass. Then, I Guarantee the Convo parking lot will be packed. And even if u have a Blue Lot pass, if not there by 5:00 you will be parking closer to The Plains than Athens....(Have never figured that shit out - why do I have a Blue Lot pass but cannot park in the Blue Lot??? And look at all those Purple Lot spaces w/no vehicles - WTF??).|

I will be Super Happy if we get 8K-8.5K (actual butts in seats - er, hopefully butts not on seats but Standing Up & Cheering All Game Long!

On Friday, where every HS player and parent of a HS player has a game all across the state of Ohio, you aren’t getting 10k. As much as some want to deny it, many local HS fans and families fill the stands on regular or traditional nights.

Or us Cincinnati folks. No shot of making a 6 PM tip on a Friday.

I was dismayed to see these two rare Saturday conference home games in January both flip to Fridays. I guess it's nice to get the TV coverage, but it still cuts into the crowd total.

From BVP post game “ “If you’re coming, bring your 10 closest friends and tell them to bring their 10 closest friends,” Vander Plas said in a postgame radio interview about the potential showdown. “It’s gonna be a fun time.”

Yep - That also. Maybe we see some additional students turnout? I would expect some additional vs lately with the game and team hype.

Fear...no way on earth we are getting 10,000 on a Friday night at 600? Are you kidding me? We will have a good crowd, but I'm guessing comparable to BGSU.

Let’s hurry up and schedule a jersey retirement and perhaps we can do it.

I vote Diamond Gladney.

Man I wish this was a Saturday 2:00 game. It'd be awesome.

But I'll be there and bringing 4 HS freshmen with me, 1 my own and 3 of his friends their first Athens experience.

There'll be a contingent from Newark coming down Friday to see their own JT Shumate. Similar to Friday, March 6, 2020 (right before the pandemic hit), when Newark fans attended senior night for Jordan Dartis.

Would love to see us bombard Columbus with a marketing campaign targeting our alumni base in the area. While a Friday night game at 6PM will be a tough sell, we've got two Saturday home games still on the schedule (including Akron which would presumably be Senior night) and six weekday games with 7PM tip-offs.

The interchange has gotten better between 270 and 33 bypass with the addition of the 3rd lane from 270 to 33 to Hamilton Rd. I'll be driving down from Columbus for the game and plan to leave around 4:00PM. GO BOBCATS!

Worthy of a vacation day in my opinion. Heading down from Stark County. I mean what better do I have to do?

8069 Officially. Loud and proud which is the best part.

Getting there by 6pm is doable if you leave by 4ish. After that its a roll of the dice. Could be 1:35, could be 2hrs plus.

That Akron game, doesn't it still have the potential to be moved to Friday night? That could be a big one by then - both in terms of importance, and in potential butts in the seats.

How did they like it?! Sucks with us losing but it's the loudest I've ever heard the Convo during my time as a student here!

They liked it. Unfortunately they especially liked Toledo's 2 alley oops. We did a side game where everyone picked a player and whoever had the game's highest scorer got to pick where we go to dinner so that kept them entertained.

I remember the tips you wrote here about bringing young kids to games. They've come in handy. Popcorn does in fact buy you a lot of time. I'll remember this one.

Agreed, but you've left us hanging. Did anyone pick Rollins? If not, how about Carter? Regardless, what restaurant did the winner pick and did it continue to entertain? Asking for a friend who also has a HS freshman . . .

I will admit I kind of rigged it because rather than drawing names for draft choice, it just became whoever shouted out their pick first (this was while we were driving) so naturally I said Mark Sears pretty quickly, and my son followed with BVP right away. Then the boys got on their phones and looked up stats and 1 kid nabbed Rollins right away, while another took Schumate and the last kid took Jason Carter. At one point it was very close between Rollins & Carter, and for a 3 minute stretch it looked like Sears was gonna enter the chat.

Because I had three 14-15 year olds in tow at 9:00 on a Friday night, all the bar-type places were out of the discussion. In the end the winner picked the new Mexican restaurant uptown...kind of a boring Athens pick. We tried to persuade something like Big Mamas, Goodfellas, Union Street to no avail...but the Mexican place was good.

I did this with a different set of people (and other son) for the Kent game too. That was was an exciting one...BVP blew the doors off in the 1st half but ended up a back and forth battle with Sears & Carry.

Haha. I vaguely recall this, but the popcorn tip sounds solid. I do feel strongly that too many parents just throw their hands up and not take their kids to sporting events anymore. I have to think this contributes to the apathy to attend for many of today's students (speaking nationally not just us). Toughing thru the difficulties of little ones at games pays off in the end. For you, your kid & your team.

That or they indulge every whim of their child and treat the whole stadium like a playground. That's on full display when I go to Reds games. If we didn't tough through the challenging times in the toddler years, we wouldn't have this now: https://ohiobobcats.com/galleries/mbball/mbb-vs-kent-stat...
