Maybe I'm just riding high following last night's gritty win, but I have been very encouraged by the development of bench/role players this season.

Clayton seems comfortable having the green light (and I also liked seeing him banging around down low last night). He's going to be such a good player when he's finished.

Schmock is rapidly improving game-by-game (he was my 'player of the game' last night, in case anybody was wondering who won that prestigious award).

Towns has been aggressive and made some nice plays last night.

Still not seeing much from Ezuma. Hopefully that changes. He does seem to get a block/board(s) in the limited minutes he does receive, though. It's not the end of the world if he isn't a contributor this season. He's a freshman with plenty of time to develop.

I'm hopeful that the Bowling Green game is remembered as the night when our bench took a big step forward for the rest of the season.

Great post...agree with all.

I'm going to give Ezuma a mulligan for now. I think mono put a serious wrench into Boals plans for him this year. He almost missed a month of crucial practice and early game action. I see this guy contributing big time in coming years and hope he continues to get some minutes. We haven't seen Boals give him more than a 2-3 minute run stretches.

^^ Agree - hard to make noticeable differences in 2-3 minutes a game. Still, he seems to always grab a rebound or two in those minutes, which I find encouraging.

I think a case could be made for Clayton getting more minutes. With BRods continued struggles from beyond the arc, Clayton may be able to help in that area. He’s shown it’s a big part of his game, Boals looks like he gives Clayton the green light to shoot beyond the arc and it may take some of the pressure off BRod.

I never worry about bigs looking clunky when they’re young. They seem to develop at a different pace. If they have the frame and work ethic, just put them back in the oven, hope they don’t transfer and see what they look like when they’re a sophomore.

If you’d told me Kenneth vam Kempen would be one of our most important players on the roster the first year he was in Athens…
