Help me understand the following;
If we have this new player sitting on the bench why haven't we made an official announcement?

36 second mark. Look who's shooting around.
This is a hell of a find. The fact that he's out there lifting shots up at 9 PM after the game tells me all I need to know about this kid. Hope he gets an opportunity to contribute moving forward.

Maybe they are waiting to announce until he suits up for first game?

Probably some arcane NCAA regulation that they can't comment on him until he's eligible, which is apparently tomorrow -- the start of the new semester.

This seems most likely.

You know that is not actually a rule right?

No, I have no idea what arcane rules the NCAA has for this type of thing. I remember in football Frank telling me about the "quite time" when they couldn't contact recruits. The NCAA has strange ways, only guru's like you know all the rules, regulations and stipulations. Us mere mortals can only guess and look through that mirror in a fuzzy manner.

That's 100% Frazier. Will be super interesting to see where he slots in on the rotation.

To what extent has Frazier been participating in team activities and for how long? I have 0 expectations that he can provide anything to the regular rotation this season. It can't be understated just how far behind he might be if he has not been participating in team-organized weights and conditioning, practices, etc.

I agree with this. We should temper our expectations on how much playing time he might receive moving forward.

We have to give Boals much credit for finding 2 additional players for this year.
He did not take our early success as a reason not to recruit new players. This kid Frazier, from his video appears quite athletic. Being recruited and played at Dayton is another plus. Yes he needs to add some weight AKA Jason, but he is a talent.
According to the Dayton athletic site Luke encountered both injuries and illnesses last year and then was added on the transfer portal. I doubt Boals would have recruited Luke if he didn't feel that these issues Luke encountered last year was now behind him. For all we know Boals may have recruited him out of high school and there is the connection.

Great work Jeff.

Let's keep our expectations in check. He didn't really "play" at UD. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Ohiobobcats.com lists Frazier and McDaniel on the roster. It still lists McDay if that means anything.

Boals did recruit him out of high school but ultimately chose Dayton. If he even does play tomorrow I see him playing minimum 1-5 minutes

A question: Did Boals actually recruit LF this time, or did it just fall into his lap? I think I remember reading a post very early on when it was discovered the he was in school in the fall that he transferred here because his girlfriend was going to OHIO. With the complete lack of any statements from the coaching staff or athletic department about this star recruit, it leaves me wondering how he actually ended up here. However, it happened, I'm glad it did. Does anyone know the actual details? I don't. That's why I'm asking the question.

I believe Boals initally offered him before he picked Dayton. I also saw that he might have transferred to be closer to his girlfriend. I remembered seeing some photos of him and her on campus last semester. BUT not totally sure if that's the reason. Wouldn't be surprised if Boals offered him again as we are in desperate need of guard depth.

Thanks for that insight. I just saw that Arkley says he’s a walk-on this semester — no scholarship. This ads another bit of mystery and intrigue to this developing story.

New player on the bench was McDaniel
Good for this kid to get a spot. Has anyone put eyes on him? Roster lists him as 6-4 230. Is he ripped or carrying a few extra? Or both probably? How man 230 guards out there? Looking forward to seeing him get some run and putting his body on a matchup 40-50 lbs smaller. He might be my idol.

But can he match that sweet little kiss off the glass you do so well under the basket?

Not sure where the 230 lbs came from. What I'm looking at says 170...

Any guy who pays his own way and is willing to try and help the Bobcats is a welcome addition in more ways than just on court performance.

If we see him in anything more competitive than mop-up minutes, I would imagine that he took part in quite a few practices.

Go Bobcats!

Another random thing to add is that Michael Brown Jr is no longer listed on the roster. Could be that McDaniel was given his spot.

So if they are eliminating players that are no longer with the team and a new scholarship is not open does that mean that they expect McDay back at some point even unknown to Boals in the future?

I have to assume that McDaniel is a walk-on and I believe that so was Michael Brown. Is there an NCAA limit for walk-ons? I do not recall such a rule. A lot of coaches only take 1 or 2 as a matter of their own rules. Fourth year walk-ons are sometimes given a scholarship if they have worked hard and improved as a matter of player relations. As far as I know John Tenerowicz is still a walk-on.

The best case scenario for next year is that BVP and Wilson come back for super-senior seasons, McDay is ready to return, and neither Boals or Sears is poached by a blue-blood. I don't think that we have clarification on super-seniors counting against scholarship limits or even if the University would allow the team to be over the usual limit. Odds are a couple of players will transfer out who are unhappy with playing time will transfer out. Maybe there could be scholarships for all of these guys and Frazier too. With the COVID rules and transfer rules and no full-time beat writer keeping up with it, it has become hard to know. Maybe for that reason I just shouldn't even think about what the team might look like next year because I'll end up wrong anyway.

I hope there's some clarification on the state of the roster in Russ' pregame interview, including how Frazier came about.
