Just wanna add some good news in here. Boals let people ask him questions on his instagram story. A few people told him never to leave and asked if OU is his dream job. He replied to these and said OU OH YEAH! and that OU is his dream job. Makes me feel pretty good about him never leaving.

That is indeed good to hear. Dream job and destination job can mean 2 different things though.

Heaven forbid but if Holtmann were ousted or even Dayton, Cincy or Xavier..I would not hold it against him.

How many coaches can say they coached basketball at "The Harvard on The Hocking" ?

That's great to hear. If Jeff can keep recruiting up I see no reason why he won't have a ton of success in Athens.

Wrong thread. OhioBobcat is Nostradamus. This was just sharing information from Coach Boals himself, who is probably in the best position to know what actually motivates Jeff Boals. Weird concept, I know, but it's not pretending to be Nostradamus, whatever it might actually be, it ain't that.

Seriously, what would you expect him to say? I’m sure he happy to be here, but to think that his recent remarks mean he’s going to be the next Jim Snyder is ludicrous. And I’m not talking about the rapper. Who knows what he’ll do in the future if he gets an offer to move up?

My point is that he knows better than you do what he values most. Some people have different priorities than you do. Your priorities seem centered around money. You are obsessed with it. Maybe he is too, but maybe not. There are still Jim Snyders (not the rapper) in the world. If Boals wants to follow that mold, the more power to him. We've already established that there is but one Nostradamus on this board (OhioBobcat), and you ain't he.

That would be great if he wants to be coach long term. I’m all for it. But I highly doubt that he tells everyone exactly what he thinks all the time. When you’re the coach you tell everyone you love being coach and you want to stay. Until you don’t.

Regarding money, I am obsessed with not spending money you don’t have.

I've heard many coaches over the years give cagey (pardon the pun) answers to questions like this. It appeared that Boals' answer was from the heart. In terms of money, I think a content analysis of your posts over the years would find a high percentage of them deal with money in several different aspects -- not just not spending money you don't have.

Regarding money:
- I’m against buyouts
- I think that a school that doesn’t make money on athletics should pay coaches more than the president. They should make dean level money.
- schools that can pay the big money to coaches and do, I think the players should get some, and not just a few pulled pork sandwiches. It is not an amateur operation.

You have a history of reading what you want into what coaches say, though.

I'd like to think that coach Boals is gonna be one of those rare coaches to break the mold and see how far he can take his alma mater. This assumes he'll be able to take recruiting to even a higher level. Sooo, if he can get the ballers, why not try to win here? I mean an NCAA championship, or at least see how close he can get. That's IF he can recruit the horses.

I honestly don't know why we'd set the bar so low. In my mind, unless he's aiming to make Ohio the first ever NCAA school to win the NBA Championship, he's not aiming high enough. But that's if he can recruit the horses.

So Coach Boals should turn down about $5 million, above and beyond what he'd earn at Ohio, over the course of a high major contract out of loyalty to an alma mater that can't seem to provide the resources to move to the "next level" in a remote Appalachian outpost? Hmmm, don't think so.
