I got to say, Boals' decision to bring on Tommy was one of the best pickups we made. One of the best on ball defenders we have and he's been an absolute nuisance to some teams this year. Plus he can drive to the basket AND drain some threes. I believe he's starting to become one of the O-Zone's most popular players - kids were starting "Tommy" chants last game.

I was thinking of posting a TS question before seeing your post.

Who is a better MAC guard off the bench than Tommy Smock?

Can't think of one.

EMU's McBride and M. Scott, both guards, and both average 11.9 ppg. One of the two, sometimes both, come off the bench.

UA's Tribble, like Schmock a part-time starter when a starter is injured or in covid protocol but primarily a sub, averages 7 ppg and 2 assists/game.

BG's Gordon averages 10 ppg and 3 assists. Teammate Chandler Turner avg of 6 pt and 4 reb.

There are others, but I'll stop there. . . the point being that there are 11 other teams in the MAC with 1 or 2 guards coming off the bench and contributing. Schmock, to your point, has been a great addition to this team. But how many backup guards in the MAC are you familiar with to do a viable comparison?

Great pickup my Jeff. I just prefer he not drive to the hoop and try to score. Drive and dish. Everything else - solid.

Yeah he has definitely had a few moments where he forgot he wasn't at Findlay anymore and tried to drive those corgi legs into the paint and it didn't end well.

Fair enough, but he's more reliable in the paint than some of our bigs. He has made a lot of good cuts to the hole and he hasn't been swatted an inordinate number of times.

And One!

I figured the board wouldn't let me down with answers to my question.

What can you say about Tommy that hasn't already been said. I think he's exceeded all of our expectations. Guy doesn't turn it over and is making a contribution on the offensive end. Glad the planets aligned with this late signing.

I should have known you two wouldn't let this pass without some kind of put down. And I would agree with your critique if it was 1982, when we were following Ohio and MAC basketball. But not in 2022, when all of this information is at your fingertips thanks to Al Gore and his little intervention - the internet.

Now that is funny! Couple of the attempts were swatted so violently they landed over here in Cincinnati.

Toledo not so far from Findlay and perhaps Tommy was feeling at home with the game he brought tonight!

How many thefts did he commit?

Huge addition to the team. Cannot imagine where we'd be without him.

Also, he's played better and better as the season has gone on. I'm excited to see where he will be by the MAC tourny.

I suspect almost all players moving up in division have some sense of doubt as to whether or not they belong. Tommy has definitely proven he does and I think that has led to him to, especially over the past few weeks, just playing the game he always has since he was a kid. Someone mentioned earlier, and I agree, he has Boals’ trust too.

The players are not the one with the doubts. The career Tommy had, he knew he could play and contribute.
