Being the 18th best conference in the country, I don't see how the selection committee can keep the MAC from having two or three teams make the dance.

No, it was actually a response to an earlier comment about being a 2-3 bid league. I just chose not to expand the text boxes.

Because if you had (expanded the text box) it would have shown that you were taking a post out of context (shocking I know). The post stated that if the rest of the league can get to the level of Toledo and Ohio THEN (love that use of caps for emphasis) the league could become a multiple bid league. Not now (when we are #18 conference), but WHEN (and if) - the rest of the league improves to the Toledo / Ohio level. Something we should all hope happens. For context:

The MAC will start getting 2 (or 3?) NCAA bids when other teams around the conference start catching up to what Coach K and Boals are doing in Toledo and Athens. I believe the coaching changes at NIU, WMU and EMU are steps in the right direction.

Totally agreed. Plus that could take some time.
WMU looks poised to be a threat in the future. EMU also has a similar outlook. Fiami, not so much from what I see along with Kent.

WELL (emphasis) I'll hold my breath until the rest of the MAC rises up and we get that 3rd bid every year. My only question I have is will we still be in the MAC by the time this happens? Or will we be in the ACC by then?

Oh I agree - long haul at best. What folks need to understand (as Squared identified) is it doesn't matter how well the regular season goes. A non-tourney champion will only come out of our league WHEN it is a strong league up and down the standings (not just two quality teams). Even this year, a win over Kentucky or LSU would have done little good. Too many of our wins are against poor competition (in conference). Not OUr fault. Play who is in your conference.

Man, I am nitpicking everything the last few days. How annoying have I been?

Is this statement true? Not exactly. True, how they count quality wins stacks the deck in favor of teams with more chances to get them but Belmont and Murray St. both got in out of a league that was much worse than the MAC is even this year. They both still have a chance to do the same thing again.

Did you see 14-9 Virginia win at Duke last night? So now, Virginia improved their chance to sneak in to the dance dramatically. Alabama (14-9/4-6 has a good chance to get in) ...LSU is 16-6/4-7... Iowa 15-7/5-6... TCU 15-5/4-4... Florida 15-8/5-5...

Teams with a losing conference record from the p-5 world get in before mid-majors with sterling records who don't win the conference tourney. Teams like Iowa, Bama, Florida, etc have to really collapse down the stretch to not make it in. It would take a number of them being horrible down the home stretch to have leagues like the MAC get a second bid. Morehead State 19-6/11-1 will probably get screwed. North Texas 16-4/9-1, Chattanooga 19-5/9-2, Cleveland St. 16-5/9-2 ...all candidates to get screwed and settle for the NIT.

cc-cat, you're wasting your time. Your knowledge, my knowledge, everyone on this board's knowledge, cannot match that of BTC.

If it wasn't for BTC I would actually expect 2 bids this year and 3 next year. Thanks to him, and only him, I am now aware that that won't happen. We all benefit from his vast knowledge on an array of subjects.

How's that for sarcasm, Optimist?

I'm not throwing stones at the schedule, BUT, managing more games against potential Q1/Q2 opponents in Nov/Dec might help. *Might*

Of course it doesn't solve the issue of what the directional schools are doing to the conference SOS this year.

Disappointing first half to say the least. We look so un-athletic against this Toledo team.

Not sure if it is the way Toledo plays or what, but our stifling defense looks anything but when we go up against the Rockets.

Frustrating how in 1.5 games this season, Toledo simply cannot miss a shot against Ohio, open or not.

Would love to see some serious regression to the mean over the remaining 1.5 games.

Toledo plays tough defense. Unless the Bobcats can find a way to beat them in Cleveland, this good season won't mean as much without a big dance bid.

It will all boil down to Cleveland.

This just appears to be a bad matchup…can’t sugarcoat it. How is Tommy guarding Rollins at end of half on that last shot? Game like this and I can’t help but think what a difference James and AJ Brown would make. Of course, Toledo hasn’t missed a shot in 60 minutes of basketball against Ohio. Hoping for a miracle in second half.

Toledo finished the half on an 18-9 run. It looked like an evenly matched game until we got stuck on 22 and didn't score for FOUR MINUTES.

Based on what I've seen in both games Toledo has our number.

I think I could hit a better percent of FT's blindfolded than our pathetic 20 percent tonight.

This game is different than the last time we played them. This time around Toledo is more aggressive and more physical. OUr guys are weak and getting pummeled. So Shumate flops? Jack him next time down. Bring Ezuma in and say "Inflict pain." But Boals doesn't do that. Even Sears looks weak tonight. I don't want to bite the hand because we are 19-3 and a loss only puts us in a tie for first. I am just disappointed we are getting beaten physically.

This thought is EVERYTHING! Elmore James, A.J. and even Sheldon will bring swagger defensively we don't have right now. Tommy is awesome but I thought Carter was our "swiss army" defender.

Toledo could pull out a gun and shoot someone, and there wouldn't be a foul called. It's incredibly easy to be the more physical team when you're allowed to guard with impunity.
