Well, seeing as the game thread was sent adrift, let's resume some game talk.

-One prevailing thought I had as Kent cut our big lead to two only for us to close the game admirably, was how this was the kind of game that we very well would have lost two years ago. I know the only players from that team still actively with us are BVP, Roderick, and Brown (despite missing yesterday), but this a roster and system that has really matured over that time. Think of the BG games two years ago, or the game at Akron. Now think of our last two games. Bend, don't break.

-Can't deny it, I was very worried when I didn't see Brown warming up. I figured we would have to play some stretches with Roderick as the second guard and that's exactly what happened. You know what, we should try to keep that lineup in spots even after Brown returns. I was more comfortable with Roderick at the 2 than I was with Schmock on the floor and Roderick at the 3.

-Justyn Hamilton might be the softest 6'11'' or taller player I've ever seen in the Convo. 30 minutes, only five rebounds, a missed dunk, and no blocks. Wasn't there a moment when Sears got an offensive board and hooked it back in over Hamilton?

-Only two concession stands open in the building, and only two out of four registers working in each, despite about 10 people behind the counter. I don't need anything special beyond the basic concessions, but keep the lines moving, please. Can't be that much of an effort to replace the same registers from 15 years ago with a real POS system.

-The black shirts they were giving out looked fire. A big picture of the MAC Championship ring. Poor kitchen speed at a 1/3 full uptown establishment not to be named kept me from getting in the building in time to get one.

-Court street looks bad. Street and sidewalk in disrepair. Maybe it's just what I notice now as an old head, but the charm just isn't there.

-Are we not charging for parking? I parked just beyond the softball outfield and no one in sight to collect fees.

For comparison - o$u is shutting down all concessions at the Schott except for water.

And as far as the parking situation . . . we're suppose to keep that a secret.

I've been chirping for a couple weeks about BVP's shot selection and how improved shot selection would help his FG%. I was very pleased to see him taking 3s much closer to the line (and to see those shots go in).

I'm assuming that staffing is an issue for both concessions and parking?

Both could be automated to a good extent, but I digress

Jason Carter has added a new dimension to his game. Taking the ball coast to coast and turning it over. How many times did this happen Friday night? I've said before he does a lot of good things but also does things that drive you crazy.

I've never seen someone miss the most gimme shots than Carter. Also, needs to practice shooting threes.

I've said this from the first time he stepped on the college court. He cannot finish at the basket. After the 3rd time he tried to go coast to coast and turned it over he should have been parked on the bench getting an earful.

Jason Carter had as many turnovers in the Kent game as BVP, Schmock, and Sears. Take away his three point attempts and he was 3-5 from the field. He has committed only 20 turnovers on the season for less than two per game. Take away his three point attempts and he's practically 50% from the field. He's fine.

I'm a firm believer that just because a shot is from 2-4 feet it doesn't necessarily make it a gimme or a bunny. Was the shot well defended? In traffic or not? Having said that, it's not too much to expect a few more of these from Carter to find the bottom of the net.

Wow what a point guard battle we got to see. Not sure what happened at Duquesne (he started all 63 games he played there) but Sincere Carry looked very very good. Neither point guard ever came out. Outside of Carry, Kent did not look great but the one thing they did do well is not turn the ball over which very few of our opponents can say this year. Again a lot of that credit goes to Carry.

BVP's 4 for 4 start was super fun and a big difference maker. Meanwhile Kent started 0 for 10 from 3 but their comeback sprint featured a few big shots.

Schmock was a little messy and uneasy. I eagerly await Miles' return and hope Covid didn't spread to anyone else.

The end of games are so much more comfortable when you are a good FT shooting team. We've had some rough FT teams in recent years...I could get used to this. We are currently 8th in the country! Was surprised to see Kent #6 on that list.

Carry is for real. The rest of that Kent team is as bad as I can remember a Kent team being in a long time.

And they lose at home to an abysmal NIU.

Jeez.... They now just need to lose to WMU and they'll have the triple crown
