It’s only a matter of time before Howard is gone. The bigger question is whether our coach gets the call to apply.

I'm holding out hope he'll stay. But I don't blame him if he leaves for a larger contract

Michigan's the sort of job and has the sort of athletic budget where their coaching search can be comprised of head coaches at other P5 schools. I'd be surprised if Boals is on their shortlist.

The Big10 nor Michigan batted an eye last year when he screamed at the Maryland coach "I'm going to f-ing kill you". There is nothing at all here to believe U of M will fire Howard. IMO

The AD's own statement seems to suggest that the B10 will be the one to discipline Howard: "We will review the situation more thoroughly and work with the Big Ten Conference as they determine their disciplinary actions and will determine if any further disciplinary actions are needed."

Note: I'm playing contrarian here and not trying to slam the coach.

Maybe we should settle down on the "Boals to..." talk.

So far, he's led Ohio to MAC records that earned an eight seed, a five seed and what's realistically unlikely to be a one seed this year. He recruited very few of the key pieces of the team that won the MAC tournament and beat UVA. Even looking at this year, two of the three top scorers were recruited by Saul Phillips. And while Sears is a clear home run, he has faltered against elite competition and been unable to adjust his game thus far.

Simply put, Boals has plenty of work left to do before leaving Athens. Does that guarantee no one will come calling with a big paycheck? No, but if I were the AD at Michigan or anywhere else I'd want a longer and better track record.

They've already started the "there's plenty of blame to go around" PR push, so he won't get much. Plus they just signed him to a five-year extension, so his contract runs through '25-'26, so the buyout (even if negotiated in lieu of litigation) would be huge. A couple games suspension from the league, and some kind of anger management course from Mich is probably the most he'll get.

If this is the case then there will be another P5 program with an open position.

Not if they watched Friday's national broadcast.

They aren't gonna fire him.

But there isn't "plenty of blame to go around." He is trying to act like Gard gently grabbing his elbow so he could explain and talk thru it (you know, like adults do) is the entire reason it escalated. Give me a break. If he showed a little regret and responsibility I'd say this shouldn't be a big deal.

Howard gets a five-game suspension (the rest of the regular season) and a $40,000 fine. Howard issued a mea culpa statement and an apology.

Gard gets a $10,000 fine.

Diabante and Williams of Mich and Wis's Neath each suspended on game for throwing punches.

And that will likely be the end of it.

Until the next time Howard blows his top.
