Intended to watch IOWAY v Mich tonite but NIU continues the swing from Muncie to Kron and just went up on the Zips in a fairly empty JAR.

Under a minute. It's getting tight. Kron down by 4

I do not remember a year where I have seen so many sideline calls where players catch or take off with a foot on the sideline. I have been wondering if moving the line out has caused them to back away and toward the sideline

I guess I was wrong on Akron finishing 3 or 4 in the league. They have collapsed after the Kent game. Hard to believe they’re playing so bad. Good thing I’m not a betting man.

They just cannot score! Struggle to get to 60 in several games.

After losing to Kent a road loss to Western Michigan is bad enough but like they say about life on the road, it will happen. But then to lose on your home court to another struggling team doesn't get any worse for the Zips who were expected to be doing better.

Since Groce left Athens his teams are 46-41 (.529) in February/March (including 8-1 in 2020 at Akron), and 7-7 in conference tournaments. He has not played in the NCAA tournament since 2013 when he went 1-1 with his first team (not his players) at Illinois.

May be time to relook at the myth of him getting his teams to peak at the end of the year.

He did it in Athens (24-16 in Feb/March, 9-2 in Conference Tournaments, 3-2 in NCAAs), but not even close since.

His Akron team did peak late a couple years ago when the MAC tournament was completely cancelled.

yup in 2020. which means he’s 38-40 in the other years.

That Akron team did peak but a certain Bobcat team was also peaking heading into Cleveland. I still believe we had a chance to shock the league and win. It was Boals' first season and Preston and BVP were leading with Jordy hitting shots. Vest was coming into his own -- BRod was improving. We finished an amazing 17-15 that year and were rolling into Cleveland. I still remember Boals' postgame after our home win. "I'm bringing 3 suits." Chills still today.

I will go to my grave knowing that we would have beaten Akron on that Thursday and had a real shot at winning the whole damn thing in Cleveland. You are right....team was rolling.

They've had several ugly close wins this season, nice to see them not squeak away with this one. On the flipside I am not sure I'd like to see NIU in a 1/8 game. Seems like they've played everyone but Toledo tough.

I would not count Akron out until they are bounced from the MAC tournament.

Literally true for all 8 teams that qualify for the MAC tournament, no?

Yes, but for some more true than others — if you get my drift. ;-)
