"Sears played in the shadow of Jason Preston last season, but the sophomore guard is casting his own this season in a major way. A five-time MAC Player of the Week, the Bobcats sniper exploded for 27 points in the 2021-22 opener against Belmont, then torched South Carolina Upstate for 33 in mid-December to establish a new career high.

Sears has 13 games of at least 20 points this season while leading Ohio in assists 13 times. Just two players in Division I have made more free throws, and no one in the Mid-American Conference has scored more points (522)."

I had not seen this article but I was looking at the Ohio Bobcats current season page on Wikipedia and noticed that someone had created a new page on Mark Sears this morning. I'd say the small amount of national attention in this article prompted whoever did it.

I couldn't find Sears birthday on the roster, but I did see a highlight film from February of 2019 saying he was just turning 17 so that means he is now (or about to be) 20. If we do make the tournament, I think he'll get a huge amount of publicity.

That would be correct according to the new wiki page

If we are allowed to have a favorite player other than BVP (are we?), mine is Sears right now. Dude is tough as nails. And delivers.

Sears is one of my favorites as well. But Schmock is starting to grow on me. He's getting hot at the right time! I think I've come up with a nickname - The Honeybadger. Because he shows the bigger guys what's up!

So, since you opened the nickname door, I think it should be Mark Special Delivery Sears....

Honeybadger for Schmock is fun.

On his Bobcat Tracks podcast, BVP mentioned that one of the coaches started calling him 'Darth Vander'. Not a bad one, but throws me off between the hard/soft A.

Also, for Sears, there seems to be some way to play off the 'sear', meaning to burn with intense heat. Just not sure exactly how to play that off. I feel like Sears and Roebuck references that some announcers try to fit in are far too outdated.

"Darth Vander" isn't bad. I agree with including "sear". I was debating "Got Seared by Sears"

After Tommy hits a 3, the O Zone should yell - "You've been Schmocked!"

For Sears, I like Russ' use of the word "sorcerer". Sears the Sorcerer.
