32-8 run really opened it up, but then no baskets for seven minutes at the end made it closer than it needed to be. Will have to do better on Friday.

Yeah, I thought he should've been in at the under 8 of the second half but then I saw him limping a bit going back to the bench.

Given our lack of putting teams away those 17.5 points are enticing.

Seeing some huge lines in the MAC this year, definitely a lot more disparity than normal.

After the Bulls got a Loss up at Toledo they will be back against the wall next game. Hate to say it but we got a target on our back and not much impetus

I sadly have to agree. Seems like we weren't overselves for the end of the second half. Can't do that against Buffalo.

I was hoping Buffalo would pull that out for our sake. It was tied at the half.

We have a tall task heading up to Buffalo on Friday. That would be a monumental win.

We are 17.5 point favorites.

Let's bounce back strong from Friday and keep racking up these MAC Ws. Think it will be a fun game.

Great rebound game for Mark Sears, think at the end he cut up his knee a bit but seemed fine. BVP had a great game as well. Disappointed in IJ's game though. He's got a lot more developing to do. Rod still in the funk.... I think it's about time we start handing more minutes to Towns. Made some good plays tonight. Thought we bent a lot in the end which made me pretty nervous but glad we could get the win after Toledo. Buffalo is going to be a serious challenge. If we win, that would be huge. Saw Rod was hurt towards the end though, hope he's alright.

Not a bad turnout in the Convo tonight, student-wise and overall. Most, if not all, MAC schools would kill for a Saturday crowd that matches our Tuesday night crowd.

Agreed, just fizzled out towards the end.

Once again I thought we played down to our competition. Up by 28 with 7 minutes left in the game and we stopped playing. We mailed the last 7 minutes in. We have been playing this way on numerous occasions this year.
I will end by stating I never was concerned about this game.

I agree. I was feeling pretty good about the performance until we practically stopped playing when we got close to 70 points. It left a sour taste, even though the game was never in jeopardy. Do you think Boals was sending a message by keeping the starters in during the closing seconds?

For all the great things Sears does, the turnovers need to get dialed back in. 7 vs Toledo and 5 again last night. Lots of sloppy passes late.

You may not have noticed, but NIU went on a 15-0 run...from 70-42 to 70-57. And we didn't exactly have scrubs in either. I do think players tend to drift outside their regular game when the game is in hand and I am not sure how concerned we should be, but I did not enjoy it. Disappointing that we had to have Sears play all 40 minutes.

You may also be surprised to learn NIU had a better FG% than us. Luckily we won the rebounding, turnover, and foul games. Sounds like about 75% of our games this year.

JC 0 for 5 from 3...most of them wide open. Now at 22% on the year. Take out the opener where he was 4 for 8, and he is 18%. He may have as many air balls as he does makes on the year. My admiration for JC is well documented but coach needs to reign this in. He has the same amount of 3 point attempts as Mark Sears. They're going to keep leaving him out there, he needs the discipline to only shoot in certain situation (late shot clock, down big, etc).

As for our other guy struggling behind the arc...Roderick's dribble/drive game and defense has been solid, and he has rebounded well and hustled. If he was hitting 3s at his regular rate we all would be raving about the season he is having and how improved he is. I would normally say give minutes to Towns & Clayton but he is doing well in other parts of the game. I'm not sure what the answer is.

IJ with 5 fouls in 6 minutes of play! This follows his 2 backbreaking off the ball fouls in 30 seconds against Toledo. Something tells me he needs to make some adjustments to his defensive mechanics.

This team has all the ingredients it needs for a memorable March, but has yet so show any kind of "it" factor that gives a hint a run will be possible. I agree with a lot of what has been said about this game and in some ways it's a microcosm of the whole season. That's good and bad. This team has more talent than most of the MAC but that won't cut it against Buffalo, Toledo or even Akron or Kent. The lackadaisical effort, clanging threes (I think that we are exactly what our shooting percentage says we are from deep: 205th in the country) and sloppy ballhanding are exactly how to lose in Cleveland.

The good news is that this is January. There's plenty of time and talent to figure out how to peak in March while still ensuring one of the top seeds. On to a really tough test with Buffalo.

And if you watched Boals when Sears attempted the alley oop pass to Towns Boals was clearly not happy. Teachable moment that Boals used to get the message we don't need that right now.If they had been playing well and you try it ok but when you're getting outscored 20-4 no way

Sheesh, I knew JC was not shooting it well from beyond but didn't realize it was that bad. He has been driving the ball well so I'd like to see him look to drive and kick or drive and get to the foul line as a first option. That would open up a little more space to hit a 3 when the timing is right. I love his aggressiveness but I think he should channel it more towards the dribble drive, seems like he is typically a step quicker than his defenders.

I'd also like to see BVP get some more touches on the blocks. He's so textbook down low and it seems like he's gotten away from posting up and has been hanging around the arc.

Anyone notice how Carter was salivating both times UT had to sub their young frosh big man in for Shumate or Milner? Realizing the mismatch, Carter took Jacobi off the dribble with ease until Coach K had no choice but to get his starting big men back in the game. Only lasted a couple of possessions. That's where his strengths are.

The Xavier story is confirmed which kind of says a bit about his three point shooting... Hoping he improves that. Otherwise he's a threat in the paint!

Yep. That he can occasionally make a three keeps them honest, but attempting as many as Sears is something that needs to be reigned in a touch, just so he's playing to his strengths.
