Oh man, I forgot about Kent.
I swear they've straight fallen off a cliff since playing Detroit.
How much longer can Senderhoff last at Kent?
Seriously? As much as I dislike "pinky" and his incessant gum chewing, he's done a pretty solid job at Kent.
Thread drift! But I agree. The guy is one of four coaches in the conference with a MAC Championship and regularly has Kent State in the top four of the league. The wheels are close to falling off this season, but that would be an insane firing. And I say that as someone who still thinks he got off easy for the recruiting scandal.
I agree he's in no danger but, sort of like TOS, he's always got the 4th best team in the MAC. Well, except this year.
That’s my point….you look up…15 years have gone by and your coach had one NCAA Tournament appearance on his resume.
Depending on where that coach is coaching, one in fifteen isn't a bad thing. He's solid. This is probably his worst year. If they recover yet this year, or next year, this is a non-topic. If not...who knows.
Were we all happy with one NCAA appearance from Larry Hunter in 12 years? I loved Larry, but I would say 95% of the board would say that was a disappointment during Larry's tenure as HC. Somebody already made a great point earlier...Sendy could be the current Larry Hunter of the MAC. Eleven seasons....one NCAA Tournament appearance. And god bless Larry....excellent coach....good man....and we don't have Jeff Boals without Larry Hunter.
I wasn't unhappy with Larry - not for that reason anyway. And my reason back then, when I was a student, wouldn't phase me at all now.
There is always gonna be someone in a mid-major conference that is a good coach that has a 10+ year tenure without getting to more than one or two tournaments. It's reality in the MAC, Colonial, Horizon, etc.
Being a good but not great team isn't necessarily terrible if you sprinkle in a little bit of hope come tournament time. Senderoff's teams however tend to peak early and then fade in February. The obvious exception is 2016-17 when they essentially rode Jimmy Hall's coattails to the tournament.
2020-21 - Blown out in 3 of their final 4 games including 85-63 to us in Cleveland
2019-20 - 4-6 in last 10 games
2018-19 - 3-5 in last 8 games
2017-18 - 5-7 in last 12 games
2016-17 - Magic, won 9 of 10 before losing to UCLA in the NCAA tournament
2015-16 - 4-8 in last 12 games
That's not what good coaches do.
