Him interacting with us up in the OZone section in Cleveland DURING THE SECOND HALF OF A CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT GAME in 2005 is the stuff of legends, only to be one-upped by Sonny Troutman shot-putting (at an angle only Somny Troutman shot the ball, like a two-iron off the fairway) a 3-pointer through the hoop three seconds later.
It was one of those moments where you’re jumping and screaming and then wondering, “Did that just happen? Did a coach just start pointing at a student section midway up Gund Arena to playfully mess with us during the important part of the game?”
He did. Because he understood what made college basketball different and great.
