The easier explanation is that Kent State almost always has a team in the top third of the league. At the risk of sounding like TOS, it's hard to win on the road against a quality team.

ESPN matchup predictor gives Kent a 53% chance to win
Team Rankings . com says 52%
According to KenPom we should win by 5 points. Pomeroy is usually a little different from most of the others.

Sagarin would have us favored by 0.5 to 1.

Torvik has Ohio by about 3.

Massey say 68-67 and 53% in favor of Kent St.

I get 65-64 in favor of Ohio.

I've been going to the Ohio games in Kent for quite a while. I remember we won the first time I went (2000), but I think our record since has been something like 3-16. And I think I missed a couple of those wins as well. I don't have many fond memories in the MACC.

We have not won at Kent since 2014. I know 2011 was the first time in a long time and I was in the building when we won in 2013.

Tough environment, and usually tough teams. Does anyone know a way to find Ohio's away records at the other the MAC venues?

Found these stats on the Kent State basketball site. Kent is 16-5 at the MACC against us since 2001, we have been snake bitten in the MACC, not having won in that building since 2014.

Are you sure about that stat AT Buffalo? We would only have played there 12 times max since 2011. We've had some success there but that seems off.

Edit: I'll be damned. My math is correct in that there could only have been 12 games not 13 going back to 2011, but we were indeed 8-4 over the last 12 seasons on the road versus arguably the most successful program in the conference during that stretch. I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it. Life on the road indeed. If only we could figure out Toledo.

A win tomorrow night would put Ohio at 14-2 in the MAC. That would tie the best 16-game MAC record in program history (2012-13) and would match the program's most MAC wins in a season (four other teams had 14 wins in 18-game seasons: 1983-84, 1984-85, 1985-86, 1993-94). Best percentage in program history goes to the 1964-65 team at .917 (11-1).

Huh, rechecked stats and it says 9-4 away record on the OU website dating back to February 2011 so that includes half of the 2010-11 season. I agree, very remarkable road record compared to the immense success Buffalo had during that time with multiple MAC tourney wins! I was surprised at the Bowling Green stat. Seems like another house of horrors for us.

Does anyone remember which year the great comeback was at Kent in the early 90s? My memory is being down by at least 3 scores with less than a minute left, and some big steals and Rush Floyd shots, but that might be my over exaggerated big fish story.

Which of those factors caused a certain player to dribble out the clock instead of going for it and down only a point?

Yep, I was there. Down 9 with 1 minute to go. Hit a 2, then 3 3s...including 2 by Rush Floyd I believe. That wasn't a particularly good Kent team and we played poorly.

1993. Saturday afternoon game.

Actually I think it was January 19, 1991...Saturday afternoon...Ohio won 60-59. Floyd hit two 3's and Estis had one in the final 25 seconds..I think. One of the most remarkable wins in Ohio Bobcats history.

Yeah, that sounds like it’s right. My memory of that was watching the game in the lobby of a dorm, and I would have been in Sargent Hall that year. One of my favorite Bobcat comeback wins.

That was the game that put Chad Estis into the rotation for good. Down 11 and between Rush and Chad the Cat's stormed back.

92-93 Chad played in every game, but that was his coming out party.
That is 100% correct about Estis. Floyd from that point went backwards. He did enjoy Court Street...haha...can't blame him.

You're right, it was 1991. I just looked it up in a newspaper archive.

With 1 minute left we were down 10.

Estis hit a 2 with 50 seconds to go. Then we got a steal and Estis missed a 2, but Lewis Jeter got the rebound and backed it behind the three-point line and hit a three.

We got another steal and Estis hit a 3.

Then we got a stop and Rush Floyd hit a 3 with 1 second to go.

To give you some perspective on how long ago that was, the Akron Beacon Journal's Sunday print edition had 321 pages.

As for Mr. Reghi, it was a cold and blustery day and my bride and I enjoyed watching him hold down his toupee as he walked into the arena. This was pre-hair plugs.
