The Ohio WBB Twitter account said in announcing the starting lineups for the NIU game that "EJ is out due to COVID-19 protocols." So I think we can rule out injury or discipline issues. As to how a player who has been ruled out due to COVID protocols can sit on the bench but not play in a game, I have no idea.
Color me perplexed at this information. Universal AC says this don't compute!
Extremely bizarre. There is really no plausible scenario that I could see this making sense. Makes me wonder if EJ/Ohio broke some rules having her out there.

Feel like I needed to step in here to clear some of the air. Rule out injury and disciplinary issues. E was let out of quarantine by the University the day of the NIU game, she wasn't contagious, so they let her be around the team. She had yet to clear the return to play protocol. She'll return tonight.

Jake, I saw that Kendall Hale finally got some run. Do you think any of the other currently injured players return in any capacity this season?

Toughness win over Kent, 70-64. Plated only six players, but closed strongly with a 26 point fourth quarter.

And with 26 pts I believe Hooks is now 11 shy of the all time record. Mace and Felder big contributors tonight.

Cece was big except for 3 for 10 from the line, yikes. Erika had an awful night shooting...2 for 18 from the floor...damn.

Our home opening loss to Northern was without Erica, and we came close to losing another home game yesterday as Erica was out of sorts all night. I think the time off might have been disruptive to her and but that won't last.

Erica and Cece is as powerful a one two punch as we've ever had here, and maybe in the MAC. Ohio may be the only team in the country with two players averaging 20 points. That says something. Go OHIO!

Not always a good thing - I believe Dave Jamerson and Snoopy Graham avg. 20-plus ppg. for the 1988-89 Ohio men's team (or close to 20).

If this team can't get more players healthy it is going to have a very tough time with that many games in so few days. I think with a bad loss already winning the MAC is going to be very difficult. They don't have the benefit of a down MAC like the men do.

Boldon won a MAC championship in his second year. The rebuild when most of that team left happened really fast with young players like Burke, Barker, Burris, Hooks, and Johnson. They won 30 games. The future of this program looked like it was paved with gold. Then it could not stay healthy. Two of the all-time starting 5 for OU are probably on this team at the same time. That era might end without a MAC title. How thus team struggles with Hooks or Johnson out or in foul trouble makes you wonder about the future too. But if Guice and Kroll come back healthy and we can finally have some good luck I still think we might contend.

Ohio wins today at Central Michigan which had been a house of horrors for us in most years of the last decade. CMU is just not the same team without Micaela Kelly. They still have Molly Davis and Jahari Smith back from last year's tournament champions. They were picked to finish sixth this year. They have fallen to 3-13 and 1-5 in the MAC so they might not even get to Cleveland. I makes you wonder what will happen to Ohio's long run of success as Kelly was a similar player. Like I said before, I think it starts with Johnson hopefully returning for a fifth year and actually having Guice, Kroll, Mace, Felder, Pope, and Garnett and most other players healthy for a change.

Anyway, a road win at CMU is a road win at CMU. Hooks scored 30 points. Johnson had 16 and Burris 15 today.

In just over a 3 minute stretch in the 4th quarter, Ohio had five 3 pointers from our seniors, with no misses: two from Cece, two from Erika and one from Gabby to 'seal the deal'. That was fun to watch.

Hooks' record-breaking basket was fully worthy of the occasion. Erica Johnson led her perfectly with a back-to-the-basket bounce pass as Cece cleanly beat her defender and finished with a reverse layup. The video posted on Twitter and on the Ohio Athletics website doesn't do the play justice, as it was taken from under the basket with a cellphone and is just a jumble of motion. But the game was on ESPN3 and the replay is still available. The play starts at the 26 minute mark for those who would like to see it. We'll have to forgive the CMU graphics people for the banner stating that the old record was held by "Carolina" Mast.

I'm hoping Ohio posts the ESPN3 video in order to appropriately document an important milestone. Next up for Cece is the all-time MAC record of 2509 points, currently held by Toledo's Kim Knuth. All she needs to break it is a 41 point performance against Miami tomorrow.

Bobcats lost 63-60 to Miami. Ohio was just 1 of 17 on 3-pointers. Hooks scored 22 points, Johnson 15 despite going 0-for-8 on 3s, including a miss to try the game at the end. Miami won despite 24 turnovers.

Can't believe we lost to these chumps, first time in 3-4 years I believe. Time for Erica to stop hoisting so many 3s, many of them contested and/or deep. A 33% shooter should not be top 5 in the country in 3 pt attempts per game. Her sophomore season was more selective which led to a better make rate. Need to get back to that.

They aren't a real good basketball team right now. Shot selection has been pretty bad the past few games, they got burned on what seemed like every out of bounds play last night, and they have been two teams' first MAC wins. It's crazy to see this veteran team with Hooks-Johnson-Burris struggle so much.

Cece Hooks all time leading MAC scorer
Such an amazing feat.

Love watching her play. Her dribble-drive speed allows her to 'blur' passed defenders with spin moves to the hoop. And not only the leading scorer, but she's one of the best defensive player the conference has had. Her quickness, speed and antipiation puts a glove on her defenders. I'm sure she must average over 3 steals a game for her career.

Congratulations Cece!
