Coaches were being bribed by Sportswear companies and financial advisors to secure athletes and steer them towards those people once out of school...if I'm reading the court docs correctly.

Complaints are linked at the bottom of this press conference announcement.

If I'm reading this whole thing correctly:

Head of Adidas Global Sports Marketing for Basketball Jim Gatto paid coaches at certain schools to pay players/families to get them to go to an Adidas sponsored school and rep Adidas once they went pro.

The thing that gets me is:

USC - Nike
Auburn - Under Armour
Oklahoma State - Nike
Arizona - Nike

So the coaches were steering the kids to opposing schools?????

Just saw this in the WSJ but no names mentioned. We all knew this was going on at some level.

There are two schools not affiliated with the coaches where the players went. It's not spelled out in the Court docs, but it's pretty obvious that it's probably Louisville and Miami, both of which are Adidas schools.

**EDIT: The players are still in high school. But they were being steered toward Louisville and Miami.

Another article, how deep does the revival of Adidas into the sports world go?

I'm liking Division III better all the time. Not saying I think Ohio should drop to that level. Just saying I'm sick of the culture of corruption and selfishness at Div I.

Reading the complaints, it looks like the FBI is involved because this involved federal grants. I guess my question in all of this is why are there federal grants for NCAA basketball programs?

Kentucky fans are ecstatic about this, due to the implications to Louisville. However, they are probably the last ones who would want people to start taking an in depth look at recruiting practices.

I missed that part. Unless the payments from the 3rd parties were being treated as grants? Then that's a whole other level of corruption.

So far these are all assistant coaches, coaches that are getting no money from the "official sponsor/supplier". They all have relationships on the recruiting trail and functions, and are taking an opportunity to "get theirs".

To be absolutely sure, Ohio should immediately change its contract to Fredricks of Hollywood.

I've heard that Pitno used Emery Freight, the preferred carrier of Kentucky Basketball.

As of now there are no connections to Pitino or Louisville. More like the UK fan base wanting their to be because Louisville is an Adidas school.

The complaint mentions a school in Kentucky. And they got a recruit from two Nike schools (Michigan State and Arizona) out of nowhere. Pretty easy to put 2+ 2 together, but yes nothing formal yet.

I'm not sure. I was initially wondering why the Feds were involved in this at all. Seems like an NCAA investigative territory but they don't seem to be involved at all. Puzzling.

Just a question for our legal eagles: Is the nexus for FBI involvement possibly the interstate nature of this (i.e., interstate commerce)?

A lot of the counts listed in the complaint are for wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud...along with bribery.

There are three other universities listed in the complaints. The four listed above are just where those current coaches are employed. The others:

1. Public institution in South Carolina - based off the enrollment figures they give in the complaint and based off one of the coaches' backgrounds, easy to conclude it's the University of South Carolina (which is not an Adidas school either, they are Under Armour).

2. Public institution in Kentucky - based off the enrollment figures they give in the complaint and when a recruit landed at Louisville and how weird the whole situation was, and that Louisville is an Adidas school, it's assumed this is the University of Louisville.

3. Private institution in Florida - based off the enrollment figures they give in the complaint and the fact that Miami is an Adidas school, it's assumed this is the University of Miami.

Am I the only one who suddenly lost excitement about Ohio being an "Adidas school"?
