With CeCe getting First Team, Erica J Third Team and Gabby Burris Honorable Mention along with CeCe getting Co-Defensive Player of the Year, what are your thoughts on the men's side?

Mark Sears, First Team
Ben Vander Plas, Second or Third Team
Tommy Schmock, 6th Man

What do you do with Jason Carter? How about All-Defensive? Anybody? Carter? Miles? Mark?

Coach of the Year has to be Sendy or Kowalzcyk right?

It all depends on how many guards they put on the first team. If it's guard heavy (4) Sears definitely makes it. BVP second team. Nothing for third or defense. Maybe Smock for 6th man if they have one.

The all-frosh team may be as good as we've seen in some time. And it doesn't include Farrahkan, who is listed as a freshman on the EMU roster and may be better than the five on the list.

Unfortunately for the MAC, in 2022 there's no guarantee these players will be back next year, let alone 3 more years.

Only one I'd argue was as good was Shumate from Toledo. Should be a very entertaining 3 days in Cleveland

Guess that 12 game win streak Kent State is currently on really turned some heads.

Regarding the freshmen team: that's gotta be the first time in a while that "West" teams swept that.

Shumate has a strong statistical argument over BVP for 1st team.

Shumate edges BVP in scoring (+2), blocks (+0.8), FG% (57 to 43); 3FG% (51 to 34) and FT% (84 to 74).

BVP leads Shumate in Reb (+0.6), steals (+1.2) and assists (+1.3).

I thought it would have been Freeman first team over both of them, but can’t argue with any of them getting last last spot. I’m sure the voting for the 5th spot was very tight.

Surprised Todd K. wasn't coach of the year. Perhaps he's not well liked by his peers. Wouldn't be surprised.

I think the first team for BVP was a lifetime achievement award and bit of historical preference to seniors in this category. He's had a great year but there were better choices for the first team.

A third and final observation: these teams are typically dominated by seniors. However, the 15 players on the three teams this year include 6 seniors, 4 juniors, 4 sophomores and 1 freshman.

Typically this bodes well for the future of the conference. Unfortunately, you can't rely on this metric in 2022 with the abundance of players entering the portal.

Here I am thinking it's a two way battle for MAC player of the year between Sears and Rollins but I do think it's well deserved for Carry with the way he and Kent State have been playing lately.

With the caveat that I didn't watch any MAC games that didn't involve Ohio, I'll say that BVP was one of the 2 or 3 best players on the floor in every conference game this season. I'm not wildly surprised.

Coach of the Year, in all sports, has morphed into the "Coach of the team who exceeded expectations" award. In that sense, Todd K definitely had an argument, but I think the voters were enchanted by the turnaround of Kent. Essentially Todd K was punished for having his team playing well all season / Sendy was rewarded for having his team struggling at the start of conference play.

Obviously one can't be sure. but I would venture a guess that Kowalczyk and Senderoff's votes went to Barbee and Whitford.
Don't know if a coach can't vote for their own players or not, but the random votes are typically because a coach doesn't want to vote against their players or themselves.

I can speak from experience. Back around 2005 my team went 18-0-2 in the reg season. I had the Mass D2 POY on my team. When the coaches met to chose awards my state POY was left off three ballots. He still won the Conf POY with 7 of 10 first place votes, but it was obvious a cabal tried to torpedo his selection.

7 blocks against Ohio and countless altered shots, we made him look like the Guardian of Rims.

I remember Paul Baron getting named to the first team in the 80s and I thought the same thing. You can't keep sentiment out of these awards.

If you are the coach and picking the team you wanted on the floor, would you go three guards OR would you bump Sears and go with a bigger line-up, Freeman?
