Really good 68-66 win over Buffalo, overcoming a 13-0 deficit to start the game. Hooks with 20 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists. Johnson 16 points and 8 assists. Bambule with 15 points, I believe all of hers in the second half.

Maybe a turning point. 16 boards from a point guard, unreal.

Agree. Boldon's team have a will to win. Ohio played only six, with starters playing 40-40-39-37-33 minutes, pretty much unheard of. Beefs did look better to me, moved the ball better and scored at will underneath where we have little size. Go Ohio!

Down 13-0 and 17-2 in the first quarter and came back to win. Against a solid team that has been their nemesis for what seems like several years. Impressive comeback, ladies!

Her great driving skills and defense may allow her to play professionally, but not at the WNBA levelright now. Three point shooting and free throw shooting are not good, but the biggest problem is not having a jump shot. If she can develop short range jumpers, it will really help her moving forward.

Handed Toledo their first MAC loss. Down nine in the fourth and we win it by seven. Cece goes for 30. Could've been a bigger margin if we could take more advantage from the line. Toledo went frigid down the stretch and we got the winning rebounds.

Get the feeling that if they could get one contributor, ANYONE, back from injury to add to this rotation and they'd have as good a shot as anyone to take the conference.

Bob Boldon's been saying lately that he thinks this is a special team. Games like this make it hard to argue the point. There were so many reasons the Bobcats shouldn't have been able to win. They were playing their third game in five days. They only go about 6 deep. Their bench looks like an orthopedic ward. Toledo was unbeaten in the MAC,and plays before the largest crowds in the conference. Yet somehow the Bobcats unleash a 28 point fourth quarter for the win. That does sound kind of special.

Against the top defensive team in the conference and of the top best in the country.

That 4th quarter was special. Cece was getting just about anywhere she wanted and scoring almost at will. I love what Bob has built here, but I really wish we could get a player or two in here that would help on the boards. Our ladies seem to get outrebounded every game, and give up lots of O boards. 17 for Toledo last night, 14 for Buffalo, 17 for Miami, 18 for NIU, etc... It's so frustrating to watch the ladies play good defense and force misses only to give up boards and have to defend again and again. Since Jasmine Weatherspoon, it doesn't feel like we've had a solid consistent rebounder in green and white.

We are presuming that Abby Garnett and Ella Pope are injured even though nobody has asked about their status as far as I know. This is a big part of that issue.

I expected a double digit loss for the reasons cited above. Don't know if this can continue with almost all 200 minutes being played by 5 players recently, but Boldon finds a way. Go Ohio!

So what all do we know about all of the apparently injured? Any of them possibly coming back?

Abby Garnett hasn't played since the second game of the year. She had 15 rebounds in 35 total minutes in those two games and could really help in an area of weakness if she were healthy.

We also only got to see a small sample of what Ella Pope might do. She played in the first five games and was 7 of 11 on 3-pointers, also rebounded pretty well.

Peyton Guice got hurt around this time last year. She was a starter in 10 of the 12 games she played last year and averaged 4.0 points per game.

Jasmine Hale played off the bench in nearly every game with two starts last year, averaging 2.8 points per game, but has not played this year.

Caitlyn Kroll started every game she played last year, missing about one month but returning, and averaged 6.9 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, has not played at all this year.

I know there's plenty of injuries this year, but getting hurt on the glass is not a new issue here.

This season: 11th out of 12 in rebounding margin (-2.6)
2020-2021: 8th out of 12 (-3)
2019-2020: 12th out of 12 (-5.4)
2018-2019: 11th out of 12 (-3.4)

What has offset the damage somewhat has been that the ladies have led the MAC in steals each of those 4 years. I'd love to find second chance points stats but the MAC page does not seem to go that deep in the weeds.

Having a very positive turnover margin can sometimes lead to a negative rebounding margin because the team forcing more turnovers is taking more shots on offense, which are more easily rebounded by the defense. Ohio ranks #239 in the country in offensive rebounding percentage and #181 in defensive rebounding percentage, both below average but not as bad as it may seem.

Ohio lost at Western Michigan today, 74-64. The Bobcats were up 27-16 after the first quarter, fueled by 7-10 shooting from behind the arc, but they only hit 2 more threes the rest of the game. The Broncos were 1-8 from three in the first quarter, but 14-27 the rest of the way. Most of those shots were stand-still, uncontested looks.

Ohio's game story pointed out that it was the Bobcats' fourth game in seven days (actually eight), and Bob Boldon acknowledged a lack of energy after the great start. But if fatigue was the determining factor today, it's worth pointing out that the past week's schedule is only a taste of what's to come. Between February 12 and 26, Ohio is scheduled to play seven times. Players whose last names aren't Hooks, Johnson and Burris are going to have to produce by then if Ohio is to have a chance to win the conference.

Mace was a solid contributor last night and hopefully she continues to fill up the box score, as you said we need the others. And we have to take better care of the ball, too many turnovers.

Well maybe the Buffalo win wasn't a turning point. Dropped another tonight. 4 for 23 from 3...1 for 17 for those not named Mace...0 for 8 from Erica.

Cece with 33 points in a losing effort. Until we hit outside shots they're just gonna crash her and force her to kick it out.

Starters played all but 12 minutes of the game because there is essentially no bench right now. That coupled with playing every other day for a while will at some point bite you as it did today. Hopefully there is some relief coming because the schedule isn't get easier. Gutsy team. Go OHIO!
