Could Boals showing interest in someplace else be a negotiating tactic for a contract extension ?

Would not be the first time that ploy was used.

I saw Boals and his family were present at the Final Four game in New Orleans. Not sure if it means anything but him keeping silent on the speculation is saying to me he probably doesn't plan on going anywhere.

At this point, Boals knows the chatter and has seen the headlines. He's either gone or he is trying to leave. If he wasn't, he would have issued a statement/Tweet saying that he wasn't.

So, he wants to take the Butler job. It's just a matter of whether they offer it to him.
Boals has never been one to make such claims via twitter. Just stay quiet and let the storm ride out

Where have you read that he ever showed interest in the Butler job?

It would have been cool seeing Boals coach Butler. Him working his way up in the coaching ranks as an Ohio alum is something I support. With that being said, I am glad he's still OUr head coach at the moment.

Seriously though, why has Boals maintained radio silence? He knows the chatter and has seen the headlines. Lead from the front and issue some kind of statement reaffirming your commitment to the program.

To not do so just makes me more convinced that he will jump the first chance he gets.

If he didn't want to go anywhere, then issue a statement saying that there is nothing to the headlines.

He's an opportunist like virtually every other head coach.

Matta is his mentor. I’m sure he knew that he was in negotiations with Butler. I remember him saying once they talk almost everyday. He probably thought it best to stay out and silent.

I think that this is a very good point. He might have been concerned that anything he said might muck it up for his friend and mentor.

Boals has to at least listen, his assistant coaches salaries will triple if he moves up. I am sure that he is having the time of his life coaching his Alma mater, but he is responsible for a lot of other people.

Including current OHIO schollies players and recruits? And AD? And OHIO more broadly?

There's been nothing concrete that Boals was ever offered or interested in anything from Butler... Purely rampant internet speculation.

Do I think there were conversations happening? Probably. But I also wouldn't expect a coach to come out and address internet rumors. Imagine if coaches were expected to address every rumor posted on internet message boards...

That's this board's favorite past time. Gin up speculation about something OU related, then get angry at the university for not addressing it on their preferred timeline.

I mean, is anybody else curious why Jeff Boals hasn't addressed the speculation that's going to be the next Cavs coach?

A dumb guy on Twitter probably said that. When are we gonna get answers?!

I read an article two weeks ago, and even posted it on one of the threads that had Boals as the top candidate at WVU when Huggins retires. Shouldn't we request an official denial of interest in this job that is not even open yet?

With the advent of social media, I'm not sure there's such a thing as a "reliable source" in sports anymore. Anything that's posted is easily reposted and quickly might be picked up anyone as gospel. I've even seen one source repeat a rumor from another source, then the original source quote the second one as verification.

It's also incredibly easy to buy fake followers to give yourself fake credibility so people are more likely to believe your "sources."

I sure hope coaches don't peer into this, though TOS revealed in an interview that he was aware of the criticisms posted here.

It comes with the territory, unfortunately.
