After much though, it occurred to me that all the AD has to do to pick our next coaching staff is to look right here on BA. To help him along, I'll make the following suggestions. Others are free to offer their alternatives:

Head Coach: FearLeon
Assistant in charge of teaching fundamentals: shabamon
Assistant in charge of explaining rules to players: BTC
Assistant in charge of recruiting: TheOptimist
Assistant in charge of player development: GraftzZ06
Assistant in charge of translating head coach's coachspeak: M.D.W.S.T

Can I please be the GM handling the portal? I'll do it for free.

Only if FearLeon gets 50k a year, with big incentives for never having misses in recruiting, establishing "pedigree", and beating John Groce every time.

Can you imagine FearLeon coaching against Groce? The slobber on the floor would be too overwhelming to keep up with. He would probably just forfeit and lay down at his feet.

Quite possibly the biggest honor of my life. Thank you OhioCatFan. However, we can't have a BA coaching staff without FJC31 being the General Manager. That is non-negotiable.

Well thought out plan here OCF.

Deal!

I promise you that AJ Sheldon, Bahamas Ezuma, The Whiz, Ben Nicol and Mason McMurray would never have received a division-one scholarship from this staff.

I wouldn't lay down at his feet. However, there would be dinner and beer the night before at The Pub.

You got it, FearLeon. FJC31 is our General Manager. At my urging, a big private donor was dug up by SBH, and he'll pay for the very high salary demanded by FJC31. DC can be his volunteer assistant.

Because I love this University and hoops program with all my heart, I am more than willing to free up part of my salary and give it to FJC31. That is how much I believe in the job he will do and how much importance I put into his position.

Also....once my salary is negotiated...I will automatically take 100K and give it to the 1804 collective per contract year to help recruit guards who don't shoot off-balance 3's when wide open and get bigs who don't move their feet when setting screens.

Uh oh. That means I'm officially in charge of developing the "Big Manz" that FearLeon and Optimist recruits?

Just remember. No misses allowed.

Wait do they have to contribute in year 1, regardless? Because that falls on the recruiting department not the "development" department. Judges ruling?

Sorry for my late response. I have been actively recruiting the regional campus teams for immediate impact players (LOL). OUZ has a promising 5'1" guard that shoots 29% from 3 and 70% from the stripe. Better than we have now but I need to digest the 5"1" side of things.

Volunteer assistant? I guess I have to start somewhere. Maybe a side hustle mopping up floors at the Cat's Eye.

Welcome to the staff DC. You clearly are already hard at work. Keep finding those diamonds in the rough at the regional campus schools.

I'm very impressed, may have to work you into a graduate assistant position, or maybe even a paid position. Scouting the branches like that is almost reminiscent of Jim Snyder's going into Perry County and signing two guards from Corning High School -- Jerry Jackson and Charlie Gill -- who helped us get to the Elite 8. Keep it up, and we may have to change your screenname to Diamond-in-rough-finder-Cat.

Update from the player development department -

This week we worked with Evans and Kuany on eye-hand coordination. Started them on competitive ping-pong. Subsequently layering in multi-tasking - starting with walking and chewing gum while walking across campus in the snow.

Future projects: nutrition and strength & conditioning training.

This looks like it could be gravy.

LOL.

Look forward to receiving the report on nutrition and strength & conditioning training for these specific student-athletes.

OCF...I'm going to need help with scheduling next year. FJC31 is going to have too much on his plate to assist me with this. My suggestion would be OU_Country, but I trust your judgement on making the right choice.

Great suggestion, FearLeon! With the all the massive authority invested in me as BA Basketball AD I hereby appoint OU_Country as Assistant in Charge of Scheduling! I know we have a lot of assistant coaches, but those deep-pocket donors discovered by SBH keep upping the ante.

OCF, Just curious. I know there weren’t near the number of divisions (2?) in those days but did Corning make any noise at all in the high school tournament during their time there? Maybe the drop off after those two was too much to overcome.

My apologies for asking here as I do not mean to delay the valuable work. Please carry on with the building of our exciting new organization.

Yes, there were two division, A and AA Athens High was AA and highly ranked in the early to mid 1960s. Corning was probably A. I don't think they advanced very far in the tournament, though Jerry Jackson's obit mentions specifically that he received some Big Ten offers. So, he wasn't totally under the radar.
