Is that a person or a bird that flew into the gym that had been doing all that shrieking though the second half? I've been tempted to mute the ESPN+ volume and not listen to that crap. Maybe use closed captioning instead.
It is a special needs fan that has sat in the front row behind the basket for 20+ years. She is well known to all MAC fans.

Are you sure the T was on Boals? It likely was, but the announcer just said it was on Ohio, as does the ESPN play-by-play.
Agreed. Never have I seen a broadcast completely ignore that kind of drama...They were stuck on finishing a talk about Javan's Mom and refused to deviate. It looked like it was called under the basket not by the bench.

Same Boalsh*t!
I haven't joined the angry mob against Boals, but I can recognize good branding when I see it. Well played.

Kuany leads resurgence, taken out at 8 min mark down 3 with Hadaway and Sheldon back in and never sees court again.
This has frustrated me all season. Coach needs more flexibility and nuance to his playing time. You gotta leave a spark like that in when you're struggling. But I knew it was coming. Both Kuany & Burris play as though they only have 2 minutes to prove themselves.

And Hadaway is 3 for 18 from 3 in the last 4 games.

If I were Boals, I would walk him to the free throw line and say, " Every time you shoot from further out than here, you owe me 200 pushups."
Yes absolutely. I have been bitching about this for years with Hadaway and Clayton before him. Late in shot clock and open, otherwise get your ass in the paint dude. You aren't Luka Doncic.

How many shots did Pavs take? He took 6. How in the heck do we have the fourth-leading scorer in the MAC and only get the dude 6 shots, ranking him 5th on the team in attempts? But I also show this stat:
3. Pavs only had four free throw attempts. I know they double him but there were times when he could have taken shots and passed out instead. He has a smooth stepback and outside shot. Is he just mailing it in? Has Boals put a leash on him for some weird reason? I just know he is as good of a scorer as we've had here and the dude disappeared offensively.
I absolutely put a lot of this on Pavs himself. He needs to take more shots. He has a great fadeaway and mid-range jumper and ends up in that area, doesn't take it and fumbles around just chewing shot clock. Especially with what he is currently working with, he needs to look to shoot more. No question.

Too many to quote on Sheldon & Hadaway...the disappointing senior seasons continue. Nothing is more painful than Sheldon's dumb ass unbalanced 3 point attempts. I am pretty firmly in the camp of Dior Conners as our best option for SG. He has good instincts and handles and I think if he played 25+ his shot would end up more dependable.

Javan in the end is fairly productive in the paint statistically, but man he takes some bad takes in the paint. He starts to attack and as a fan you can think "oh this is not going to go well" and he gets gobbled up and often rejected in embarrassing fashion. He is better suited for a catch and finish guy but we often ask him to attack.

This wasn't a good loss, I think Kent had a bad night yet still won easily. No way to slice it, really really bad 5 game stretch.

At what point do you turn off the practice film and look at the game film? Some players just practice a lot better than they play. Especially when the guys he's practicing against are nowhere near the competition they face in-game.
My high school coach said I was Dr. J in practice and Dr. No in games. I sat a lot on gameday.

The technical was on Boals who was arguing (not all that demonstratively) after the and-1 that Sheldon committed. And it was clearly a foul. I turned down the volume because I got secondhand embarrassment from the Kent sideline reporter's Perd Hapley impression. On top of that was the flagrant-1 on... Burris?

One thing not discussed...Kent did this without arguably its best player.

Rob Whaley...who scored 27 two days prior at EMU.

JJ Kelly and Simmons, another portal BIG and a 6'3" POINT who can distribute and play lockdown defense and we'll be in the hunt when adding in the pieces already on the roster and coming in as freshman.
What makes you think Kelly and Simmons are coming back?

I am not convinced of that at all.
I'm not sure Simmons would be invited back.
I'm starting to think he wasn't invited back to Toledo?
You don't believe the story the TV announcers were peddling that he came to OHIO to be closer to his grandmother? Where's his grandmother live? Gallipolis?
I hope Coolville.

I worked at Shively as well from 1961- 1964. Many of the Elite 8 players worked with me and they were men, not spoiled little boys like these guys appear to be except for Pav,JJ and some of the non- starters.

He has developed the reputation with officials of complaining a great deal hence the multiple technicals. That's 8 in 6 games for the program. Prior to last night, the whole league had 15 for the season.

I appreciate the optimism here, but I think the Boals era is officially cooked.

His answer to the question about Sheldon’s playing time after the Akron game was that it was his lowest outage for the season. He then reverts back to giving Sheldon the second most minutes the very next game in which Sheldon had a Sheldon game. That’s a bad look — both internally and externally when you aren’t winning and the player continues to not produce.
I keep going back to a direct quote from Boals after during a press conference after the Arkansas State loss where Sheldon went 2/8 shooting and played 36 minutes. Someone in the room asked him about Sheldon's increased load from the previous season and Boals mentioned his defensive deflections that really help the team. Then he talks about his shooting:

"He got some really good looks. I think he's shooting 48% from three in all of our practices. So we're gonna continue to lean on those guys."

At what point do you turn off the practice film and look at the game film? Some players just practice a lot better than they play. Especially when the guys he's practicing against are nowhere near the competition they face in-game.
I know I posted it back then. It worried me then. It's come to fruition now. But way back before the Wright State exhibition game at UD, Boals was asked something to the effect of "who has been your best player during the off-season?". His answer was Ajay Sheldon.

we completely bombed again. seriously, we gave up 7 points in a span of one minute to blow any chance we had of winning this one. another terrible season in the books for us. we can take comfort knowing that akron will get crushed in the first round of the ncaa tourney

Good lord, this was hardly intended to be a pissing contest about who's a man versus a kid, but rather that we call one of our own Bobcats a "waste". A waste is someone who goes to miami or joins ICE. Not for a four-year Bobcat, whose basketball performance isn't up to your standard.

Where is the word "waste"? Lack of toughness, discipline an effort are apparent . Just go back and compare this team to the 1964 team with the tallest starter at 6-feet 5 inches and how they played defense.

The word waste was used and it's not the only time the attacks on the players have gone beyond basketball criticisms.

Discipline? yes, more than fair. Don't see lack of toughness or effort. Just see us not putting the ball in the hoop and not stopping the other team.

And, oh yeah, let me just got get out my 1964 team video archives that I keep in my basement. I'll spend my weekend doing a comparison and report back to you! :/

Yep, Charlie Gill and Mike Haley knew how to play defense, as did others on that team. Snyder's teams always played good defense.
