Ohio freshmen have, in 2 months, been part of one of the best campus atmospheres on a football Saturday (WVU) and arguably one of the most exciting games v. Miami, our main rival. Both in front of large crowds (record attendance v. WVU).
My son, one of those freshmen, knows these turnouts are not the norm, having been to 1 or 2 games per season his whole life. But how many of those freshmen's first-ever experience at Peden was the WVU game? Sending home large crowds with exciting wins against neighbor and P4 WVU and OUr top rival can only keep the students engaged and wanting to come back for more.
And I think I heard that the Arkansas St. attendance was the best season opener in basketball in years (decades?). The student section, not organized like the Crazy Cats or the O-Zone, has been impressive and is still the best in the MAC.
Finally, I think students see Norm more as a novelty, something they put up with but not necessary to their mission.
