Finally, a possible change to college basketball that I find exciting and, more importantly, beneficial for MAC-level teams:

Bracket Busters was always cool/fun. To your point, this new concept needs to actually lead to more mid-majors getting at-large bids. I’ve also always wondered why mid-major conferences haven’t done their own challenges (MVC/MAC Challenge) like P5’s.

Who knows how this would work yet, or which leagues will participate, but here are the two teams closest to the top MAC teams at season end in the ESPN BPI:
Toledo (Rutgers & Oregon)
Akron (Northern Iowa & NMSU)
Buffalo (Wagner & Louisville)
Ohio (Hofstra & Temple)

If nothing else, with most games being on Wednesday or Saturday, it might be a chance to get a quality game in the convo on a Saturday, instead of our Friday moved big games to CBS Sports Network.

It was always an interesting mid-season diversion that did result in some good matchups when we had a quality team, but the Bracketbusters seemed more like a way for the mid majors to cannibalize each other.

One problem with Bracket Busters was that it was made for TV, but only for 20 or so teams. The better matchups wound up on ESPN while the majority of schools got a game but little exposure. Also, it was uneven as to home games; it seemed like we were always on the road (and not on ESPN). At least with this format each team should have a home game every year.

This format likely won't affect the number of "P" teams in the Dance every year but probably will redistribute a few at-large bids that the others get. One non-"P" might get an additional bid at the expense of another, but probably won't bump a "P" except in rare instances.

They did follow through and alternate home/road every year, plus added that the home team had to give a return game to the opponent within two years. But sometimes that resulted in getting a game against a team that wasn't a "match". For example, in 2012, we were set to be a home team and we got paired with UNC-Asheville who was the closest in RPI of the road teams, even though we were way ahead of them in RPI. Groce was really peaved about that on the next coach's show. UNC-A offered us no help in improving our RPI, but they were still a very good team that year (nearly beat Syracuse in a 16-1 game).
