Clayton played for us at age 17. This kid could turn into something special. Give him a break.

Another thought on BVP: Perhaps he's hoping for an offer from a West Coast school so he can be close to and support Jay Preston for a year?
Don't get me wrong, I was very impressed with what I saw out of a 17 year old. Still crazy to me that he was 17 almost his entire freshman year.

That being said, does being almost a year younger actually benefit him? I can see how it would play a big factor if he had draft potential but what is the benefit of going up against guys older that are still in the same class, eligibility-wise?

It almost seems like more of a disadvantage IMO.

The bull case for Clayton is that if you look at his freshman year stats on a per 40 minute basis or a per 100 possession basis, they're comparable to what Vander Plas did as a freshman.

The bear case is that he's 40 pounds lighter, an inch shorter, and seemed to lose the coach's confidence as the year went on. His minutes went down at a time when our rotations were very short.

In BVP's freshman year, his minutes ppg average increased over the second half of the season. Clayton's decreased from 11.5 to 8.9.

On Boals' Twitter header photo, the team looks to be arranged in order of height with Granger being the only guy ahead of AJ. My naked eye this year thought he was the tallest on the team, and he could still grow... his feet are enormous. Boals also said in a pregame show he was close to 240. I buy it. Looks like it is mostly lower body.

Boals has also been public about the original plan to redshirt AJ, but he proved to be too good, and multiple here who caught a glimpse of preseason practices echoed that observation.

I think the 6'7" 195 we saw in some places was lazily pulled from a recruiting profile somewhere. That's Jon Smith/Tyquane Goard size.

That's fair. I didn't do much digging on his size, just pulled it from Sports-Reference.com.

Can back up claims about his size being classmates with him. Absolute monster. Easily 6'8. He's got some build as well, in no way is he skinny at all.

Has BVP received any official offers? Haven’t seen much info since a week ago when he went into the portal.

As of now, the Badgers top targets in the transfer portal are:

Kamari McGee (UWGB)

Bennett Vander Plas (Ohio U)

Grant Basile (Wright St)

Patrick Cartier (Hillsdale D2)

Max Klemsit (Wofford)

Antonio Reeves (IL ST)

Prediction: Badgers sign McGee, Vander Plas and Cartier https://t.co/83e1hwzyry&mdash ; Future Badgers (@FutureWIBadgers) https://twitter.com/FutureWIBadgers/status/15135751552845...
Knew Wisconsin would be highly interested. I hope they sign him, would be an awesome homecoming for him

Cartier doesn't surprise me tbh either. Know him from Hillsdale because of Pritzel (former GA here at Ohio, current asst. with Will Ryan at GB and has heavy Wisconsin ties courtesy of brother too).

If Wisconsin ends up with that group, should be a solid team again. Even if Cartier plays all of 5 min a game, can be a solid player.

OSU…Please no!!! I want Ben to remain one of my all-time favorite Bobcats and continue to root for him this coming season. I know it’s about him and what he wants/needs to do for himself, both from an athletic and academic standpoint. I fully understand that. However, I won’t be able to change how I feel about it and my reaction to it. Wish I could. Call it a weakness of mine if you want.

These reports do not square with our insiders who said he has had a place carved out for awhile.

If he is holding offers from Virginia & Wisconsin as reported, it is hard for me to imagine him going anywhere other than those 2 at this point.

I'd agree with this if OSU wasn't the leading institution in just about everything involving $.

I'm sure the OSU NIL discussion he's having with Holtmann makes UV and UW look like mid-majors.

NIL money? Are we sure BVP even wants that? Somebody should talk to his Mom asap.

I'd root for BVP anywhere except an in-state or in-conference school. Or at Marshall.

Could never imagine him leaving Ohio to go to another "mid-major," so MAC, T'erd and most in-state schools are probably out. O$U has a few openings but unless he's really sold on an academic program there he's probably not headed to Columbus. Cincy isn't what it used to be and it may take a couple years for Xavier to be competitive again in the Big East. If I had a farm I'd probably bet it on Wisconsin to win and UVA to place. The rest are just in there for conversation (all dirt roads lead to Blacksburg, so I can't see him going there).

Not saying that's what BVP wants, I'm saying it would be pretty naïve to think Holtmann isn't using NIL stats/potential earnings as a sales pitch.

If he's not, I would question his recruiting tactics.

I'm secretly hoping he goes to Wisconsin or Virginia. Virginia because I just want to see what the Crazies would say about him, lol.

My money is on UVA and Tony Bennett. Named after family. Dad and Mom went to Tony’s wedding. Dad teammate of Tony in college. Recent success with transfers and recruits being developed for the NBA and international play. Great grad school for business to start his doctorate!
