Saw this tweet yesterday. Remembering back to Leon Tillman and Jerome Washington as the state of Ohio Athletics when Russ became the Voice.

https://twitter.com/RussEisenstein/status/153023522528395...

Pre games, post games, interviews. Radio Shows. We are really fortunate during this period of expansion in Social Media and broadcasting to have had a direction and a Voice feeding us info and painting pictures with colorful commentary.

I still listen to most broadcast on a variety of platforms from TuneIn, Varsity network, RadioGarden to Ohiobobcats via the links he provides (so I do not have to think or seek) to keep up with the Bobcats. Someday this ride will end and we may flounder but today is the day I say THANKS for the past 14 seasons. YOu have elevated the presence and kept us Tuned In for many seasons. Keep setting the standard that makes our Broadcasts heads above our MAC peers and on par or above most P5 schools

He does a great job. I hope he stays until at least until I’m gone.
All kidding aside, I really don’t understand why he hasn’t gone elsewhere.

It hit me how much Russ cares about his craft when two years ago in the season opener against Chicago State, he accidentally called Dwight Wilson...Dwight Wright for the entire first half. Somebody must have told him because he spent the first five minutes of the second half apologizing profusely and you could tell he was legitimately ticked at himself. He never had to address it, but he did and it wasn't just a quick mention. That mistake genuinely beat him up. Mad respect there.

14 years at one school at the mid-major level doing play-by-play is a long, long, long time. Thankful to have him on our side, but obviously at some point, I'm sure he'd like to be cashing bigger checks. Tough, tough business.

So thankful to have Russ making those calls! Living where I do, I’ve really had to up my game with my ability to search for Bobcat game day content. Oh, and the viruses I’ve no doubt subjected multiple computers and phones to, probably could be a study in and of itself. But, no matter the situation, I always can count on Russ’ call to “paint” the picture for me. Not to mention the games I’ve re-listened to after the fact… Thanks Russ for all the professionalism and joy you bring to our school covering our school! We are lucky to have you…

GO BOBCATS!!!

What was Russ' dress attire the first time you heard him on the air? Asking for a friend.

I ran into Russ a few weeks ago when I was back in town. I almost didn't recognize him, his hair thinned out a lot since the last time I saw him last. I walked right past him before it hit me that it was him. Old Father Time doesn't discriminate. I think Russ does a good job. He can get cheesy at times, and tries to build up the games to be bigger or more important than they are, but he does a good job. I especially like his running mate Rob Cornelius. I think they work well together, but IMO, Rob is the glue between the two. He comes across well prepared, very knowledgeable and quite witty, without all the unnecessary fluff and drama. I think Rob is an underrated asset to the broadcasts.

My coworker is friends with Russ. I've gathered from talking to him that Russ is kind of stuck in the same pigeonhole that my cousin was - working in a small college town for an number of years. Every year you get a year older, and every year a lot of the people around you are still 18-22. There aren't a lot of young/youngish professionals in your age range. It can present some challenges for companionship. Athens is a nice town and is a lot of fun when you're a college student. But it also lacks a lot for people after those college years and into/through the next 20 years of their lives when they're looking to find a quality job, meeting people in that next age bracket of life, settling down, starting a family, etc. That's where Athens can really limit your options. I'm not saying it's impossible, I'm just saying there are a lot of better locations that offer things that Athens simply can't. I'd be willing to bet a person who spent 14 years there would agree.

One of Russ' greatest strengths is his knowledge of and appreciation for MAC traditions and history.

I think russ is fantastic.

We vacation every even numbered month and i always take earbuds and bose bluetooth speaker with us so i can listen to bobcat hoops far, far away. I literally plan gamedays on vacation around hearing him broadcast the games.

Might be poolside in FL or chillin in vegas or on a cruise .... i get my infotainment fix. Possibly with a couple adult sodas.

Thanks Russ!
