So, what are chances, I wonder, of Sears actually transferring. Some BA pundits had Sears and BVP transferring to Butler along with Boals as the new HC. Now, everyone still assumes, it appears, that he's gone, but will that actually turn out to be the case? The track record of BA posters (myself included) is not all that great.
You lose absolutely nothing by declaring for the portal and seeing what's out there before ultimately deciding to return back to the school you are already at.

Maybe if you are a guy riding the bench, you risk your slot being taken while you look at other options, but Sears is talented enough that it isn't a risk.

Best case scenario is he decides to return and we add some talent to the portal around him.

This may just be the scary new normal. Will take time to get used to having to re-recruit your own team every year...

I could see athletes hitting the portal yearly while pursuing the NLI money at the same time to see what the best package is available. I assume if Mr. Sears acquired a strong NLI deal for staying at Ohio he may stay. Why wouldn't every successful player put their name in the portal yearly?

I think in the long run the portal is going to even up basketball more then we have ever seen. Kentucky will be kentucky and so will the other 5 or 6 top schools. But now you are going to see guys recruiting each other to come and make a run.

Position yourself as one of the right mid majors and you will be getting a lot of kids who can really play.
If I wanted to watch that drama I'd tune into the NBA, which I haven't since about 2019.

College basketball players have more freedom/leverage than NBA superstars. Crazy shift in power.

Pretty much 100% says he is going to leave. Visited Mississippi State and plans to visit Georgetown. Very serious offers coming from Alabama, Texas, Miami, Georgetown and Mississippi State.

Texas: “I spoke with the head coach and he's basically saying they need me to reach the final four. He said he wants to win a national championship and around this time next year wants to see me in the draft.”

What a load of crock!

Alabama has had some guys drafted recently, but I think they're confusing their program with the football team.

Would love to see a statistic on the percentage of CBB transfers that are considered "successful."

Hard to quantify, I'm sure.

Alabama: “Their message is that they want me to come back home. They're system is very guard oriented and they told me they put guards into the NBA.”

Do you think anyone at Alabama actually knew that the guy Sears replaced at Ohio went to the NBA? Texas' final four message is actually better than this one.

Considering their head coach coached against Preston multiple times, yes.

They are really blowing smoke up his ass. Coaches are just politicians with better salaries.

I like that Sears added that he is looking for a team that plays the best competition night in and night out to showcase his talents. First of all: MISSISSIPPI FREAKING STATE is going to do that for him? Secondly, he had MULTIPLE opportunities to showcase his talents against very good teams in must-win situations and came up short in every situation. I wish him well but come on man, whether coaches say it or not, you're not needed for a Final 4 run.

First of all, can anyone remember a single instance when Sears distributed the ball to another, better positioned Bobcat on a breakaway? Didn't happen.

I imagine his "all for me" mindset was felt by others on the team.

Boals basically gave the keys to that kid.

Good riddance.

I hope Jeff McKinney doesn't label this as a "bullshit post."

I label it as an insightful post, which probably guarantees that Jeff will have a different opinion.

Think Sears might know this, too? ;-)

Hey now, he's a good kid, no criticism allowed. Once a Bobcat always a Bobcat right?

I agree that Once a Bobcat, Always a Bobcat but the dude didn't have to give an interview where he stated things that were slight digs on OU. Jaaron got waaaaay more flack for leaving and he went quietly.

It seems like Mark really didn't care a whole lot about Ohio University. Really seems like he had an exit plan for awhile.

I feel somewhat bad for him though, must have been tough to keep all of that internalized during the season.

That interview makes him look pretty foolish IMO. Sounds like he is just repeating what his AAU "coach" has been telling him.

Maybe he didn’t keep it internalized and that contributed to our bad finish.
