I’ve always been more invested in the basketball teams even though I’m a college football fan. The truth is, Ohio football is a nice excuse to come to Athens in the fall and to watch the band. For most us who grew up in the state of Ohio, we know the vacuum that is Ohio State, and it is incomparable to Ohio and MAC football. In football you need to get top tier talent at almost every position to win championships, and that’s not what Ohio gets. Now with basketball, you really only need 2-3 talented players and a just good enough cast surrounding them to make some noise. In basketball just 1-2 years can make a difference in a program. In football it often takes 3-5 years to maybe build up just 1 special team (think about Iowa or Northwestern and their cycles). So all this to say, yes I’m all in on Ohio basketball, but I’m not investing heavily into these other sports. If they do win and have success in them though, that’s just a cherry on top.
I've never compared Ohio's program to Ohio State. That is like comparing Ohio basketball to Kentucky basketball all the time. However when you are located in one of the top recruiting states for football and have an impressive college town environment there is always reason for hope that it can be at some point successful. MAC is now in line with the opportunities the other G5 conferences have to compete unlike the 80's and 90's.

As for a National Championship, the 1960 team was the College Division National Champs in football.
